Glove Manufacturer Mr, Pringle first commenced busi• ness in Wingham in 1903 in a small way in the tanning of gl ve leathers, ai that time the fir n name was ;ringle and Grover, a %rear later Mr Pr.ngle took over Groves' intrests' and continued the bossiness since that tin e, adding thereto the manufactur- ing of gloves and. mitts for inen's -Par. for some o cid• firms, , dine years n.ge Mr. Prin ie lt:td the misfortune to have his whole went destoyed by lire, crippling him very seriously finer.: r a1'; but the town had great faith in Mr. Pringle and the industry and came to his assistance with a loan of $4000 at 4 percent interest payable in instalments. The present fine building was soon erected and equipped with the best class of machinery for tanning glove leathers and for the manufacture of gloves and mitts on a much larger scale. Mr. Pringle has proven that the town's 'confidence in hims to make good, was not misplaced as he has paid back the loan all but $40 and that will be promptly paid on matur- ity. '1'1I1 WESTERN FOUNDRY CO. LTD Sixteen years ago Mr. J. J. Cunn- ingham arrived in Wingham from Tor - onto, purchased the Defunct National Iron Works and started The Western Foundry Company with a staff of ten. men. They commenced the manufac- ture of the "Crown Tiuron' range - - 1which met with immediate favor and. is now known from coast to coast. 'From time to time, new lines were added, until they had a complete line of Stoves, Ranges, heaters and furn- aces. With the energy they have always displayed, buildings were erected and - - equipped, until they had accomod- ation for 150 men and the halm of this has gone so merrily on that stoves and furnaces by the carload were soon being shipped from these works. Still there was no abatement to the de- mand for their lines, and if they meant to keep pace with the increas- ing flow of orders still more room and more man power must be employ- ed. In 1912 fifteen acres were pur- chased and they erected a new unit to their plant, consisting of a splen- did moulding shop, 250 x 80 feet, mounting shop, 280 x 50 feet, sbipp- ing room, 300 x 80 feet all fitted with modern equipment. With this addit- ion the firm now i h d t to decrease his staff to fifty hands and these are kept steadily at work. The machinery and equipment in this flourishing factory is of the very best of the up-to-date kind. There are three glove cutting machines and fifty two sewing machines with all other necessary utensils in connection with the works. Fine large work rooms, packing and shipping rooms, and convenience and suitable store rooms. The whole plant is run by Electric. power and every convenience and comfort Supplied for the work people. Mr. Pringle a'year ago purchased a fine motor truck for the speeding up of his freight traffic. Mr. J. Chandler, 15 Manchester Buildings, Toronto is the sales man- ager of this industrial institution. THOMAS KEW Harness and Horse (clothing Upwards of twenty years ago the above named gentleman became ac- quainted with the denizens of White- church and the fanning community of its surroundings. Mr. Kew built a fine shop and resi- dence in that progressive village a- bout that time, and started business in the harness and horse clothing line. The young man pushed out of his apprenticeship had become an expert in knowing just how a set of harness should be made, to be adaptedable for the kind of use that it was in- tended for. Along with this he had learned ..all about leather the good, bad and indifferent kinds, had also ac- quired the particulars and the know- ledge how to buy.
