I had my doubts, but was de- termined to try once more I took treatment two weeks, and am utterly astonished at the re- sults. 1 am nearly well, and no language can describe bow thankful 1 am that my life is spared. This testimony is voluntary, and I give it hoping that hundreds of my sox may try the medicines and receive the same marvellous good that I have. They are good to take, and, un- like any medicine I ever took before, leave no bad effects. MRS J. FAWCETT, 102 John Street, Toronto, June 5th, 1890. ]3RITISTd CATTLE MARKET Lieenl'oor., Aug. 24. -The general supplies ae well as the receipts of .Can- adian and United States cattle to -day were heavy, and prioes took another drop of about one cent per lb. all round, under a very weak demand. The fol- lowing was the range of prices, calculat- ed at 34.80 to £1: Finest steers, 11 to 114o; good to choice, 10i to 11c; poor to medium, 9i to 10c; inferior and bulla, 7 to 9o. MONTREAL LIVE STOCK. MARKET There were about 450 head of butch- ers' cattle, 500 sheep and lambs, and 175 calves offered at the east end mar- ket on Monday. Trade was fair, and prices had an upward tendency all round, still the leanieh stock was very low-priced. A few head of the best oattle were sold at from 4-• to 4toper lb. but comparatively few sales were made at over Sic, and from that down to 210 per lb for oommon dry cows and ordin- ary rough steers, while some of the "grasshoppers" would not bring over 20 per Ib. Calves were in good demand at from $3 to $6 for common, $7 to 310 for superior and extra veals sold up to $14 each. Shippers are paying about 30 per Ib. for good large sheep, the others are bought by the butchers at from $3 to 34.50 each. Lambs sell at from $2 to 34 each. Fat hogs are a little more plentiful, but prices are firm at from 51 to 6o per Ib Receiv- ed at the C. P. R. _yards ar--e 1,563 oat- tle, 1,337 sheep, and 231 hogs. There were some very fine Northwest cattle at these yards. One large lot wall for export, and there was another bunch of 60 nice 1,000 pound steers for which 4c was being asked, n being refused. . TORONTO CATTLE MARKET. Last week's receipts at the western oattle market were 2,728 cattle,. 2,265 sheep and lambs and 1,017 hogs. The offerings to -day were 46 loads, including about 50 calves, 700 eheep and lambs and 80 hogs. The market all round was dull and quiet, especially for export oattle, which dropped from 45 to 30c per cwt, the chief cause being unfavor- able reports from England. Export cattle -There were very few ) wanted and what were taken were bought at purohasers' prioes. Prices ranged from 34 to 34.75 per cwt, bat most of the sales were made in the neighborhood of 34.25 per cwt. Stockers -There was only a moderate trade doing and prices were lower in an overstocked market. The range was from 3l to 31o, but the lowest quota- tion was nearer the ruling figure. Butchers' cattle -The market for this olass of stook was also weak and quiet, with only a straggling trade do- ing. The prices paid ranged from $3 to 33,50 per owt, with perhaps a few choice head going up to $3.75 per cwt. . Sheep and lambs -Prices were steady, but the supply was more than the mar- ket wanted, and a good many were left over unsold. Shipping sheep sold at from 33.75 to $4.25 per head, and butch- ers' sheep and lambs at 33.50 to 34 each. 1.111+9 Egg and Butter Trade. Mr. John Dyke, Canadian Govern- ment, agent at Liverpool, sends to the Department of Agriculture some inter- esting information relative to the egg trade with Great Britain, which it would be well for exporters to make care- ful note of. He says that owing to the fact of three or fear shipments of Canadian eggs having arrived in Eng- land recently not properly selected and carelessly packed, the demand for them has somewhat fallen off, otherwise the prioes all round would have been higher. "The most successful Canadian ship- per is Mr. Wilson, of Seaforth. His eggs are carefully selepted, well packed and properly shipped ; that is, they are placed in a cool part of the ship, not near the machinery, where they are liable to sweat. The consequence is that at present Mr. Wilson's eggs are fetching 8 shillings per long hundred (ten duzen),while for inferior and badly shipped Canadian eggs prices are down as low as 5s. 6d. The best Irish eggs are to -day selling at 7s. 6d. to 8s.; Ger- man, 5s. to 6s. 6d. ; Danish, 7s. 8d. , and Russian, 5s. 2d. to 6s. Very few French eggs reached the Liverpool market, but „choice selected French eggs are realizing from 7s to 8s per 120. The prices are said to be abnormally high for the time of the year. They us- ually from this time until Christ- mas, riseC mabut of course they cannot be guaranteed ; they may fall. The eggs must be sent in Belgian packing in packages of 1,200 eggs with one divi- sion. Mr. Wilson seems to have met the requirements of this market admir- ably. I may add that the best grade of Canadian eggs weighs from 16a lbs. to 173 lbs per 120." THE BUTTER TRADE. Mr Dyke does not write very encour- agingly with regard to the shipment of 'Canadian butter to Britain. He says what is going over is of very poor quality. Some shipments of American butters, manufactured on the creamery Principle at present are 87s. to 90s. per 112 pounds; Limerick and Cilonmel,108s. Danish, 104s. ; whilst Frenoh marga- rine, in itself superior to any butter ever shipped from Canada,' is selling at 98s. per 112 pounds. Unless Can- adian butter is made on the factor principle, says Mr. Dyke, and somy little intelligence is put into the bnsie nese, it can never hope to find a pia - on this market. Mr. Kirkwood,' ce Orillia, recently brought here Liverpoof two or three packages of specially seol ected farmers' butter. This was wool - better than the ordinary shipments anh was packed in tin -lined tubs. Thid would realize about 80s. per 112 poundss In batter for the English market there mast be quality, nnifctmity, careful salting and great care in packing." I was attacked with congestion of the liver and inflammation of the kidneys, attended with ex- cruciating -pains in my side and back. Could not lie on either side, could scarcely breathe. The slightest movement caused agonizing pain. No- thing gave me relief. I sent for Dr. Itear, know- ing he had cured my daughter of a dangerous ill- ness with Histogenetic Medicine after she had been given up by four skilful physicians. In one week my pain was gone and liver and kidneys acting as well as ever. The euro incomplete. It acts the most like magic of any medicine I ever Wok. I sincerely hope that the suffering ladies of Toronto and elsewhere may try the superior merits of these pure and tasteless medicines. My object in giving this testimony ie purely through sympathy for the sick and dying. MRS. McCULLOUGII, 003 Adelaide Street, east , Toronto. It is to be run parallel with the road along the dooke for 6} miles, with a station at every half mile or less. Electricity will be the motive power. A. Globe correspondent writing from Portage la Prairie says: "Crops here are big beyond description. Another week without frost will mean millions to Manitoba. I never saw such wheat in my life. Plenty of it will go from 35 to 40 bushels to the acre." Mabel, 2I years old, daughter of D Allport, was pushing her carriage along the verandah, lwhen itlran over the edge and Mabel follo..ved, striking her head on one of the bolts and receiving in- juries from which she died in a few hours. Advices received Saturday night from several points in Minnesota, the Dakotas and Manitoba show that the tempera- ture has veered close to the frost line, but that no serious damage has yet been done. In Manitoba a few touches of frost were experienced, but without serious results to crops. Another high tax patriot has desert. ed Canada in the hour of her need. J. H. Greer, ex -Conservative oandidate in West Elgin, and one of the most pro- nounced opponents of reciprocity, has shaken the dust of Canada from his heels and taken up his residence in Arkansas, where he has invested his money. Yet in recent contests his loyalty to Canada knew no'bound. Ontario has no reason to be ashamed of the reform contingent she sent to Ot- tawa. The debates and committee in- vestigations show that, besides the lead- ers of the party, all of whom are able and distinguished men, the rank and file are capable, clever ;nen, who are able to hold their own with the best of them on the other side of the House. Crop prospects in England are poor. From Westmoreland and Leeds reports of grain destroy- ed have been received. Rev E Hurlbert, superannuated Methodist minister and long a• missionary among the Indians, died suddenly Tuesday after- noon. He was in good health up till the hour of death. W 0• McWilliams, ex -city sol- icitor, Toronto, has signified his intention to become a candidate for the mayoralty of Toronto next year, if J J Withrow does not be- come a candidate. Itis rumored in Ottawa that Mr Dewdney will resign and take a Lieutenant Governorship. That is the pleasant way they have in Ottawa, a minister not being able to control his department takes a Lient-Governor8hip, while the in- competent man in less favored walks of life takes a walk. -Tor- onto News. This ship- ment is a trial one, and if the fruit bolds out well regular ship- ments will hereafter be matte from that district.
