The cattle- men, fear, therefore,, that thie is the inception of measures which will lead , to the entire prohibition of carrying live stook across the Atlantic, and ao- oordingly a meeting of the Live Stock Association was held to -day, when it was decided to appoint a committee to proceed to Ottawa, and induce our Government to send a representative to England to aid Sir Charier Tupper in his endeavors towards securing fair treatment for Dominion shippers. Trade at the east end abattoir was quiet, some 550 cattle and 260 sheep being received. The day being a holi- day with the French-Canadian butchers' the attendance was small, and very little was done. The supplies of in• ferior beef critters are still in excess of the demand, and low prices for this kind of stock prevail. In the course of another week a superior class of cattle will begin to arrive for the Christmas market, and trade will become more active. About 300 were left unsold, and for what business that was done 44 per ib was the best figure, while the range was from 2 to 4c for most of the sales.
