to the entire prohibition of carrying

Trade at the east end abattoir was
quiet, some 550 cattle and 260 sheep
being received. The day being a holi-
day with the French-Canadian butchers'
the attendance was small, and very
little was done. The supplies of in•
ferior beef critters are still in excess of
the demand, and low prices for this
kind of stock prevail. In the course of
another week a superior class of cattle
will begin to arrive for the Christmas
market, and trade will become more
active. About 300 were left unsold,
and for what business that was done 44
per ib was the best figure, while the
range was from 2 to 4c for most of the
sales. The sheep offered met a fair
enquiry at steady prides, one lot of one
hundred bringing $4.25 each.
