The cattle market on Monday was
quiet, butchers having stocked up well
on Thursday, when the offerings were
a few better cattle on the market, but
the general run continues poor. Trade
during the week was fair, and the mar-
ket was fairly well cleaned up and in
good condition to receive the 225 cattle,
271 hogs and 26 calves which were offer-
ed this morning. Among the offerings
were about 3 loads of very fair stock,
which were taken by speculators at 4c
per lb. Hogs were in moderate supply,
but moved slowly at $4.60 to 35 per cwt.
At the east end abattoir the offerings
were 600 cattle,175 sheep and 10 calves.
Trade was dull on the whole, butchers
having bought freely on Thursday.
Some fairly good stock was offering, for
which holders were asking 411 to 4fo,and
there was no disposition towards con-
cession. The best price made to -day
was 4}o. Two rough steers sold at 3fo
and common dry cows at from 2j to
no. Sheep and lambs were higher in
price all round, old sheep selling at
from $3.50 to $6.50, and lambs at from
$3 to $5 each, and good calves were in
demand, but scarce, and prices ranged
from $5 to $15 each.
