A COMBINATION OF INTEREbTs BE. TN'EEN THESE TWO GREAT LINES POSSIBLE. Montreal, Oct. 3, 189.0.—Froin time to time rumors have gone forth that negotiationbwere on foot between ti e Grand Trunk and Canadian PacifieRailways looking to a union of these two great trunk lines—or, if not a union, at least to closer relations, and per- haps, a pooling of receipts. 'Is there anything in it ?' Thus far apparently there has not been but once more the attention of the public is conspicuously drawn to these roads, arid the knowing ones assert that this time some united move is contemplated. The prolonged visit of Sir Joseph Tyler ; his visit to the Northwest and the proposed hostile legisla- tion threatened by the United States towards these two great roads, give rise to various rumors and the question is again asked, 'What will be the result ? Will they combine to protect their mutual interests ?' Time will toll ; but, in the meantime, there is one matter upon which those connect- ed with these great railways un- animously agree, namely, that Nasal Balm is the only remedy for the effectual euro of cold in the head and catarrh, in all forums and stags. The following testimony from two well-known officials of these lines bear out this assertion: Mr J. D. Keuriedy,G. T. It. agent at Brockville, says : 'A short treatment with Nasal Balm radi- cally removed all symptoms of my catarrh. The preparation is plea- sant and easy to use, and gives immediate and permanent relief.' Mr Gerdon Stato, C. P. R. agent at Brockville, says: •For some years' was troubled with a severe case of catarrh, and was seldom free frotn catarrhal headache. I tried many remedies, but without avail. I precured a bottle of Nasal Balm, and in less than a week my headaches had disap- peared, together with all other symptoms of catarrh. I believe Nasal Balm is a boon to all suf- fering from this terrible malady.' Every sufferer from cold in the head or catarrh should at once procure a bottle of Nasal Balm. No other remedy can possibly take its place. I have been a great suf- ferer from Neuralgia in the face, and last two years was quite a martya to the malady, So soon as I observed the Nerviline ad- vertised I obtained a bottle from our druggists, Messrs. John Gray & Co., Parkdale, and the ef- fect was marvellous ; pain ceased and I can enjoy sound sleep at night, and ris3 refreshed. I can- not speak too highly of it and heartily recommend it. Emotion bangs his liver from port to starboard— adds to the number of kinks— wobbles all over Ontario, and then be calla me a swindler be- cause I haven't cured him. Gen- tlemen, who is the swindler—the arch fiend ?' p The crowd cheered him again and again, while the farmer made all haste to get out of sight, and after peace bad been restored the fakir 'held up one of the bottles and said : 'Now, then, who takes the first bottle ? Compounded by a South American hermit from herbs and roots grown,jn a mysterious valley and I'll give $ 100 for any com- plaint it won't cure. 'Very few smokers realize the extent of the (harm done to the mouth, heart and nerves by to- bacco,' says a well known physi- cian in the Phildelphia Inquirer, who has just returned from the Berlin Meaical Congress. 'When I was in Europe I learned of a simple and effective method of rendering tobacco entirely harm- less without destroying its aroma. The method was discovered by Dr Gantrelet of Vichy, and it should be regarded as a priceless boon to smokers. It consists of a small piece of cotton wool steep- ed in a 5 or 10 per cent solution of pyrogallic acid, inserted in the pipe or cigar holder. This will neutralize any possible ill effects Of the nicotine. In this way not only may the generally admitted evils of smoking be overcome, but eirrosis of the liver, which is sometimes caused by tobacco, and lighter effects of overindulgence, such as headache and furring of the tongue, may be avoided. Citric acid, which was recommend - by Vigier for the same purpose, bas the serious disadvantage of spoiling the taste of the to- bacco.' LONSUMPTION CURED.
