MONTREAL LIVE STOCK
MARKET
There were about 400 butchers' cat-
tle, 300 calves and 260 sheep and lambs
offered at the East End abattoir on
Monday. The demand was slack, and
prices somewhat lower all round, owing
to the muggy weather and the continu-
ed dullness in the demand for shipping
cattle. Mr F. T. Winch, of Peterboro,
had a load of very fine steers on the
market, and sold most of them at 5}o
per Ib. He had also a very fine pair of
oxen, which he was holding at 6c per Ib;
these oxen were fed by Mr W. Blezzard,
of Cobourg, and weighed nearly 4,800
lbs. Good stook sold at from 4}o to 6c per
lb; bulls at from 30 to 4o; common dry
cows at from Sic to 4}o', do. and milk-
men's strippers at from 3c to 44o per
ib. Calves sold at from $2 to 54.50 for
common veals, , and from $5 to $9 each
for good ones. Sheep were rather lower
in price, and nearly all of them have
been shorn; prices are from $3.50 to $6
each. Lambs sell at from $2 to $5 each.
Fat hogs are plentiful and easier in
price, or from 6,jc to 6c per lb.
