fitally shipped to it from other
countries. The large cbnsum-
ing °class thre require to
be fed, and the supplies
to a great extent, must be secured
abroad. The large quantity of
cheese shipped to England from
Ontario alone, $8,000,000 worth
last year, showe the wouderful de-
velopment in one line of produce
alone, and a contemporary points
out the fact that if Ontario manu-
factured the hind of butter that
was wanted in England, $10,000,-I it' That he intends to continue

there every year. Danish or Irish I denly dropping that which has
butter now has the preference, burned hie hands.
and the only causeof this is becaute•I British trade statistics show a
re uniform falling off in trade be-
tween the United Kingdom and
Canada during January 18901
compared with the same month of
lest year. The imports from
Canada into Great Britain declin-
ed from £96
>xtil2iop. dollars to prepare a 21st,
and in a year or two It is old and
requireaa couple of bundred thous-
and dollars to patch it up. It has
excited the suspicion of Conserva-
tives anti the most violent antag-
onism of the Liberals. It does
nobody any good; its clumsiness
does everybody harm by interfe!-
ing with the franchise which is
the right of every grown man,
who is not a convicted criminal;
its great lumpy uncouthness, the
opportunities it presents for con-
spiLaoy against a free vote and a
clean ballot are all danger signals
which have been continually flash-
ed before the eyes of Sir John.
That he adheres to the mistake is
perhaps because he was father of
at is mo and of superior
quality. The Creamery system is
the best method of securing a uni-
form quality of butter, and it
would 'seem that if the farmers
want to get the very beat returns
for their labor, they should adopt
those methods or plans that would
bring about this result. We have
frequently,hear•d business mon say
that they have lost money on but-
ter taken in overthe coun-
ter, because so many different
qualities aro received that
there is not sufficient of one grade
to sell at a fair figure in bulk.
There aro some remarkably good
individual butter makers among
Canadian farmers, but if they can
secure a higher price by turning
in their milk to a ;reamery it
would seem to be self-interest to
do that. At a Farmer's Institute
meeting in Glenrgary one of the
speakers stated that a certain
creamery which had got its name
up, sold its butter in Toronto at
30 and 40 cents a pound. This
may be exceptional, but it shows
that a good article will demand a
good price, a point that will be
found to hold good in almost any
department of commerce. Four-
teen years ago our export of but-
ter to Great Britain was greater
than it is to day. Such retrogres-
sion would seem to indicate that
thele is something wrong some-
where, and it is in the interest of
all concerned to find out where
the wrong is and rictify it if
possible.
DELAYS ARE DANGEROUS.
Ma EDITOR.—It is a well known fact
that the majority of people are inclined
to look upon a cold in the bead as a
matter of little importance--invofving
at the most only a temporary incon-
venience. No more disastrous mistake
was ever made. The neglected cold in
the head is the source of the catarrhal
affections with which about seven -
tenths of the people of this country are
afflicted, and catarrh itself is too often
the preliminary stages of consumption
and death. The symptoms of catarrh
are manifold, but among them may be
mentioned, offensive breath ; dull, op-
pressive headache; offensive droppings
from the nostrils into the throat and
bronchial tubes; deafness or partial
deafness; constant hawking and spit-
ting ; weak and watery eyes; a hacking
cough and feeling of general debility ;
ringing in the ears and frequent dizzi-
neos. These are but a few of the more
general symptoms, and those who ex-
perience them should lose no time in
applying a remedy—delays are prover-
bially dangerous, and in the case of
this too prevalent disease may Lead to
death. We offer Nasal *dm to the
public as a POSITIVE CURE for cold in the
head and for catarrh in all its forms
and stages. Nasal Balm has been test-
ed in thousands of cases, and the testi-
monials in our possession prove that it
is all we claim for it. It has cured
other sufferers—it will care you. It is
easy to use, pleasant and agreeable and

turing instrument to apply it Give it

Talmage's Deception.
Rev. Mr Talmage is, in a measure,
under a cloud at present, the. accuse.
tion being that he practised deception
and was altogether too sensational dur-
ing his recent visit to Palestine. Mr
Talmage derives a large income from
supplying a syndicate of newspapers
with his sermon each week, several days
before it is preached, so that they may
all have it ready for publication on Mon-
day. Before his departure on his trip
he wrote enough sermons to cover the

be published as if they had been re-
ceived by telegraph. He sailed from
New York on Wednesday, and the next
Monday his sermon appeared in the
synditown ca"eWhil'paee the dateders teamermwasedis-

"Rev. went ashorerTalmage
and finding a church he
preached the following sermon." At
the time he was in mid.ocean and did
not arrive at Queenstown until the fol-
lowing Wednesday: He didn't preach
at Queenstown at all. His other ser-
mons also purporting to have been tele-
graphed were "faked" in the same way.
He is represented as having preached on
CalvaLand,ry and in and also nher Marls'ces in Hill the at Ath-
ens, where St. Paul preached. It is be-
lieved that he did not preach at any of
these places. But his worst deception
was the baptism in the Jordon. A par -
tell nph went hg how the Brooklyn preacher e rounds of the had
found an unbaptized American on the
banks of the Jordan, and as he expres-
sed a wish to be baptised the preacher
donned an Arab sheik, led the unbap-
tized one into the sacred stream and
there baptized him in humble imitation
of the forerunner of Christ. Many
thought that it was an opportune tbing
that an unbaptized American should be
loitering on the banks of the Jordon
just when Mr Talmage wanted him,
lightbut limakes a dif-
ferent pictureof it and n t so pretty a

tramp whom Mr Talmage had met.
Much to the tramp's surprise, the florid

he kicked prodigiously until softened
with a liberal contribution of back-
sheesh. These revelations concerning
the sensational and not over truthful
methods
to raise lhie nir inethe are
of
church goers who no matter what they
be themselves, exl1pppect and demand that

To stoop to the methods of the circus
clown and the tricks of the sensational
fakir may put money in the preacher's
pocket, but must destroy his usefulness
as a teacher of the truth. Rev. Mr
Talmage has so far made no effort to
clear himself of these charges, and un-

ADVICE TO THE GIRLS.
I have often heard people advise, girls,
To marry for love, if you can,
But just here, don't make a mistake,
girls, --
'Tis your own not the love of the
man.
You must love him as he does himself,
girls,
You must love him, so deeply, so
true,
That anything, he may think right,
girls,
For him you are willing to do.
He may tell yon, he loves you, at first,
girls,
Don't believe it or ought in that line,
And he's silently wondering then,lgirls;
If you could get dinner in time.
And oh, how he longs for to ask, girls,
(One month after marriage he could)
If you can cook all he can eat, girls,
And not ask him to split any wood.
And if you would cook every day, girls,
Carrots, cabbage, potatoes and peas,
And turnips and beefsteak and pork,
girls,
And hundreds of things besides these.
For he loves a good meal, above all,
• girls,
'Tis his greatest enjoyment in life,
'Tis the sole reason wily he desires,
girlf,
"A very good 000k for a wife."
His wife, must have no higher aim,
girls,
Till her eyes with old age have grown
dim,
Than to strive, to improve every day,

In preparing good victuals for him.

Those are trifles, too small in his

Close to the great cities of St. Paul,
Minneapolis, and Duluth.
Remember that the arket
regulates the price paid for wheauluth t in the

required to be paid on location. Less

family and effects to:the far northwest.
The land grant offered to actual set-

Minneapolis, which possesses the most
extensive flouring miles in the world.
You can now obtain a farrn in the
