Live stook receipts at the west end

and 148 hogs, OWing 119 the large re-
ceipts and the oommenoemont 'of the
Lenten season, there was but a poor de-
tnand for cattle, and trade generally
WM slow. The class offered was fair
but butchers held off or bought at their
dwn prices, nothing going above 4o.
Sheep—Receipts, small; in good demand
A shade higher prices paid for good
hogs. Calves more plentiful. Cattle—
Butchers' good, fit to 4o; butchers'

04,d0 to 34,70; calves, 04 to 38. There
were about 675 head of butchers' oattle
offered at the east end to -day. A large
proportion of the cattle were in fairly
good condition. Some drovers main-
tained that prices of good beeves were
from 04 to 35 per head lower than they
were two or three weeks ago. A few of
the best beeves sold at 4 -to, with pretty
good stock at from n to nearly 4o.
Bulls sold from h to 5o per lb. The
few mutton critters offered were of in-
different quality, and sold at 4ir to 50

and prices continue about 44c.
BRITISI. ^4+ TTT,E MARKETS.
The late improvement reported
the British markets does not appear to
have beet maintained and there is to
be reported a decidedly weaker feeling
this week. The decline which has
taken place can hardly be accounted
for by any larger supply, as receipts
have been rather lighter than the week
before, bdt is simply attributable to a
falling off in tilt demand, which is now
weak. The drop in prices average*
per lb., best steers selling at 13 c. Re-
ceipts of Canadian and United 'States
cat* have been' fair, while general
supplies have been light.

you can secure
LAND IN THE NEAR NORTHWEST !
Close to the great cities of St. Paul,
Minneapolis, and Duluth.
- Remember that the Duluth market
regulates the price paid for wheat in the
northwest both in British and United
States territory. Four hundred miles
from that shipping port means at least
15 cents a bushel for railway freight
and elevator charges, and the same facts
apply with equal force to cattle, sheep
and other farm products.
The Great Northern (St. P. M. & M.)
Railway Co. have 50,000 beautiful
farm Homes which they offer to actual
settlers at an average price of five dol-
lors an acres on long deferred payments
only one ninth of the purchase money
required to be paid on location. Less
than it would take to transport your
family and effects totbe far northwest.
The land grant offered to actual set-
tlers commences within 20 miles of
Minneapolis, which possesses the most
extebsive flouring miles in the worn!.
You can now obtain a farm in the
Mississippi valley close to that great
city which is connected with seventeen
great railway;systems and their branch-
es. These lands are unequalled for
fertility as the following crop statistics
prove.

that it is healthiest in the universe.'
