any part thereof, or representing or being the

to hold or represent incumbrances thereon or
interests therein, are called upon to file, in the
orrice of the Registrar of the Exchequer Court of
Canacla, their claims or oppositions, on or before
tihe thirtieth day of April, A. D., 1889, and are
notified that such claims or oppositions will be
received and adjudged upon by this Court, and
that the proceediigy herein will forever bar all
claims to the compensation stoney, or any part
thereof, including any claim in respect of dower,
or of dower not yet open, as well tot in respect

Mr. James Ilyslop who was so
severely .injured by tlte'railway
accident at St. Goer; e, is uow able

111r. Hyslop is progrosaing favorably
it will probably be many months
before he is able to work again, on
account of tl,o effect of Lit' his anyone
internal injuries.
The Hungarian Bind appeared
iu the Royal on Friday evening and
played an excellent programme.
The baud received a large number
of encores And in every case re-
sponded with nu extra number.
The attendee -At was not large
the storm raging making it
almost impossible fur those re-
siding any distance to be present.
There was one feature in connection
with the performance that could
cheerfully be dispensed with, name-
ly: the unbecomipg conduct of a
number of girls and boys. Thrso
young people seem to have tho idea
that.lotul talking and shuffling, of
chairs are very entertaining. Such
conduct may bo meritorious to the
unthinking, but to Otago who pay
admission fees fur a pleasant even-
ing's entertainment it is anything
but pleasant. Let us hope that in
the future those who prefer load
talking to delici:,us music will give
the Royal a rest by heejling ori the

Miss Maggie Wilkinson left for
Toronto on Thursday with the in-
tention of permanently' residing in

Mr. W. H. Murney has put a
pretty fence around the residence of

Mr. Hugh Pain has so far re-
covered from his recently severe
illness as to be able to take exer-
cise. •
Quite a number of our store
keepers have introduced very pretty
imitation flowers and foliage plants
as decorations in their windows.
There WAS no electric light in
the churches on Sunday night; the
cause of the mishap being the break-
ing of the street circle.
Material is coming forward so
slowly, that it is probable the now
vessel will' not be .launched till
near the end of .June.
The tug Jones will not be ready
to leave for the north till Monday,
as the alterations being made to her
machinery will not be completed
till that day.
The whole of the fishing boats
belonging to this port wero treated
to a coat of paint and generally re-
fixed the past week.

Odd fellowship by attending Divine
service at Knox church, on the
morning of Sunday the 21st inst.

• Mr. Joseph Kidd jr. is adding a
"fine salt" manufacturing branch
to his Salt well establishment which
'he expects to have ••in operation
by the end of the week, the heating
apparatus for drying the stilt is en-
closed in solid brick,,from which a
' chimney of the same material runs
through the roof, the whole having
a most substantial appearance.
On :\[ouday Morning a horse at-
tached to a sulky became unman-.
ageable through some part of the
harness giving way, earl the result
was that the driver landed in the
middle of the road, turning two or
three somersaults before reaching it.
The driver. however, strange 'to re-
late, was but little . hurt, and the
animal, a young one ,just being
broken in, was not in any way in-
jured.

One would think by the Near Era
that there was little or nothing left
of gnu of the churches in Londes-
boro', it. was otlr privilege to enjoy
an excellent 81'rvice there recently
with full house. That paper has the
unenviable reputation of raking up
and publishing all tho gossip it can
get hold of.
W,o received too late to insert in
last issue tho following more de-
tailt'ti account of the late Mr. John
McUee of this village. As already
stated in these columns, the funeral
took place Monday of last week.
The deceased Mr. McGee was a
native of county '1'iliporaty, Ire-
land, and bad reached the patriarch-
al ago of 00 years. Ile lived to
see his children grow up and to see
hie grandchildren. IIo came to
Canada in 1.3.42 aur) settled iu want
is known as the Tipperary portion
of Goderich township. . After the
death of his aged partner 17 years
ago he remover' to Blyth and has
ever since resided here with his
son-in-law, l[r. Robert Brownlee.
He. servo,' 2.i years of the earlier
part of his life in. the Irish Con-
stabulary, a body of hien known
well for their grand physique and
intelligence. When his term of
service expired he received extra
compensation from the British Gov-
ernment for his long and faithful
services in his native country—ser
vices which often were of the most
hazardous nature in that loved and
troubled laud. lie was a member
of the Orange Society for 75 years
and probably was the oldest Orange-
man in Canada and though he had
ceased of late year's to be an active
member, he never ceased until the
day of his death to rejoice in its
principles. IIo was naturally of a
robust constitution and social dis:
position. His military training in
early life was to be seen in his erect
bearing and walk up to within a
few weeks of his death. He had
few enemies, if any, but hada host
of warm personal friends, which
was evidenced by the volunteer ser-
vices of neighbors and othere 'dur-
ing his sickness, and by the large
number that made up the funeral
cortege to Clinton cemetery where
all that was mortal of the veteran who
had passer) through the vicissitudes
Of a life extending over nearly one
hunslred years 10111111 its last earthly
resting place.

ing his home. We undorstabd his
mother is in poor health.

citizens has gone and done it at
last, that is he got married.
We understand Mr, John Hopper
has removed from town, he is em-
ployed with I. J. Downey at the
lime works driving his team.
Hamilton & Tovell's hens must
be laying very well for the firm
sold eight hundred and fifty dozen
of eggs as the result of only two
days gathering.
Our worthy tailor, Mr. R. Mc-
Cunuuines, had a wood bee one day
last week and at evening• a few
ladies stepped in and a very pleas-
ant time was spent in. the way of a
hop.
A sacs accident befell Mrs. W.
Crook on last Saturday. Coming
front her home down to C. Me-
Clelland's store her foot went into
a holo in the side walk and broke

of our village any more with his
rowdyism ; if Bob duos break the

May bees in March and thought our
village smith could tell ; we think
that if Dan would level that fellow's
