LOW-PRICED DRY -GOODS.
FARM AND MARKET.
-Many farmers do not yet fully
appreciate the value of bran as a
feeding material. For growing
animals it may form considerable
part of the rations.
-We venture the prediction that
the man whe begins right now stock-
ing up the farm with good grade or
pure-bred cows, and heifers and
turns a respectable registered bull
in at their head will in two or three
years time fairly reap dollars fpr all
dimes invested.
-There is a popular notion that
soft maples grow much more rapidly
than those of the sugar -bearing
kind called hard or rook maple. The
soft maple naturally grows on low,
rich, marshy ground, which may
cause its greater luxuriance in such
conditions. Where both have been
transplanted on high ground there is
little difference in growth. The hard
maple is a few days later putting
forth leaves in spring, but otherwise
is every, way ns desirable as the other
and for sugar making is much more
