OVER THE FALLS.
. An unknown woman jumped
over the Niagara river and passed
into the falls shortly before noon
on Thursday. She was dressed
neatly in dark clothes, was of light
complexion, auburn hair, and ap-
parently 25 years of age. . She
was seen walking carelessly to-
wards Niagara river, a short nis-
tenet) above Prospect Point, at
Niagara Falls, N.Y. Soon, after
reaching the river she was seen,
by visitors near tbo falls to toss
her hat and parasol lightly into
the rushing waters, and a moment
after she glanced hurriedly around
and deliberately leaped into the.
rapids. Tho mighty waters caught
her up like a straw and bore her
rapidly towards the American
Falls, head first, her arms swing•
ing in ,the air as she approached
the brink of the falls: Her face
was turned for a moment towards
Prospect Point, not twenty feet
away, where a number cif horrified
.spectators stood spell -bound, un-
able to render her the slightest
assistance.

A. farmer named Hilton, living near
Gananoque, hired a very inexperienced
boy to help him about the place. One
morning he told the lad to go and salt
the calf over in the pasture. The boy
took about p. quart of salt, rubbed it
all over the calf, working it into the
hair. A gang of colts scented the salt
and got after the calf. They licked the

lick the hide off, too. The farmer tried
