MONTREAL LIVE STOCK
MARKET
There were only some 50 head of but-
chers' oattle offered at the Eeat End
Abattoir but there seemed to be no de-
mand for them,as the bntohere have all
the fresh meat they require for some
time to come. The change to cooler
weather has gladdened the hearts of
many of the butchers who have large
stocks of meat on hand, for had the
warm weather of Friday and Saturday
•continued for a few days longer there
would have been a large amount of
damaged meat in the city, and even
as it was there were more or less
disagreeable smells around some of the
meat stalls on Saturday evening, as
many of the refrigerators had not been
got into proper order. There were
about 30 milch cows offered at Viger
market last Friday, but only a few of
them were sold. The horse market
continues brisk, with considerable
numbers being shipped to the United
States, also there is a fair local demand
for horses for the City Passenger Rail-
way Company and express companies.
The shipments of horses to the United
States last week were 173 horses, cost-
ing 818,712; or an average of 2108.16
each. The highest priced large lot were
21 horses which cost 82,780, and the
lowest priced large lot were 10 horses,
which cost 2785.
