could be called fairly good. The quality
choice cattle could be seen, and these,of
course, brought the best prices. A sale
was reported at 31c per lb, which would
be about the outside price paid on Wed-

head. Inferior sold as low as low as 2c

scarce and quality was poor. Good ex-

MONTREAL LIVE STOCK
MARKET
There has boon no improvement in
the cattle trade. In fact, it has con-
tinued unsatisfactory to drovers, who
have been unable to make a turn, owing
to the glut of stock. Receipts have
continued considerable for the time of
years, and large numbers have been left
over. Of late, however, there has been
rather more business in e$ ort cattle,
several cars having beep taken at 4 to
44c, but shippers are not anaxone to buy
as it is difficult to get good cattle Rt•
a price to compete with States beasts,
which are oh5ap at present and are be-
ing shipped in Large numbers. The de-
mand for butchers stock has been doll
and glow. Heavy supplies were offered
and buyers were indifferent, and many
were left unsold. A few choice beeves
made 44c, but the general tap was 4c.
Fair to good grades went at 3 to 31o,
with common at 24c. Sheep have con.
tinned in light enpply and good demand
the market being cleared at 44 to 5e.
Live hogs were nominal at 5 to 51e.
TORONTO LIVE STOCK.
While the supply on Wednesday was
not very large, being bat 19 Toads, in-
eluding about 150 sheep and lambs and
65 hogs, there was still quite enough for
the demand, which was not of the most
spirited character., although, perhaps, it
