Cranbrook, on May :27th.. There were
four appeals entered against the Assess-
ment "Roll of 1889, viz., A. Bishop;
Agnes Woodburn, Hay Brae and D.
and J. McNair, all claiming to be -too
high assessed. After hearing the patties
and their witnesses it was moved by
Edward Bryans, seconded by Wm-,
Brown, that A. Bishop's assessment be
reduced $100, and that no &Iteration- be
made in Agnes Woodburit's assessment.-
-Carried. Moved by A. Hislop, sec-
onded by Walter Oliver, that the assess,
merits of D. and j. McNair and Hay
Bros. be each reduced $100. -Carried.
The following changos were made :-

CoTINCILI.VrEETiNG.-The council met
for the transaction of general business.
After adoption of minutes the following
accounts were ordered to be paid: Ac-
count of C. Murray, repair to culvert at
lot, 3, concession 4, $6; A. Plewes,
building culvert at lot 25, concession 1,
$5; F. Rolrnested, for professional ser-
vice in suit Charleswerth vs. ,Tucker,
emith, Council in the School Board we -

fences on Kippen Road, that Matthew
Scott, Robert Leitherland and Wm.
Bubelz were ngneeable to building the
fence as required provided the eouneil

the road, declined to build for less than
30 cents per rod. Wm. Elgie was"
authorized to conclude , a bargain with
the parties. The following sums were
voted aa relief: Nicholas Price, $10; J.

as returning officer, reported the result
of the vote taken May 22 on the By-law
to abolish the Township Board of Tree -
tees. - The Bylaw baying received a
majority of votes in each of a majority
of the wards has therefore -received the
assent of the ratepayers of the township.
It was moved by James Walker,aecond-
ed by James Sproat, that By-law No. 6,`
abolishing the Township Board of Taus -
tees, be considered and finally passed at
neat Meeting of Council to be held on
June 20 at 2 o'clock at Dixon's hotel-,
Bradifield. The school question and the
difficulty with Mr. Fisher Were disposed
of as stated last week: BY -laws - were
passed appointing pathmasters and
poundkeepers, and the council adjourned
to meet at Dixon's hotel on the, '20th
June at 3 o'clock.

-Mrs Lemon a widow and the
-mother of two,•children was found dead
in her room a friend's house in Kings:
ton, Sunday morning last week, having
been asphyxiated with gas. She had
turned out the gas but "had moved the
cat -off too far back,,thus allowingihe

Jesuit question ably discussed; Stir-

boundary, near Glammis, met with e.

fortable position, although he was not
under:the implement, but Was dragged
about 20 rods when the trace unhitched
