The Little SwedishGirl.
I heard Once & touching story of a
little Swedish •girit eleven yoars old, who
*was taken to an hospital, where, after an
Illness of several months, she recovered.,
-She was iv -homely child, but, being very
- -kind and thoughtful, : she endeared her-
self to all around her. There was
brought into the hospital a little girl of
a peevtah and disagreeable: dispositions
who Was very sick. The Swedish girl at
once took her place by the cot of the
-
little stranger and renamed entire charge
of her,,in fa* acted the part of a ilttle
mother -dressing, nursing, and serving
the poor sufferer with the utmost gentle -
21e38 and -devotion. .The little child
. grew rapidlyt worse, and refused to take
either food -Or medicine from any one
else than het new:found friend. At Iast
she died in the arms of the little Swede.
When the Little Mother, as she 'as
called, was asked • by the matron why
she had treated the sick baby so tender.
she looked bewildered and said:
DO' net all the people in the ,world
help:each other 1. Yeti have helped me."
-" But why did you choose that baby?"
the matron .,insisted "there are many
others here prettier, -better tempered,
mare Yes," replied the
little Swede, with a tear in her eye,
" but.she had • 'nobody but me to take
care of her .madam."
Aphorisms on Child Culture.
None has yet penetrated the mystery
of a Mother's` Influence over her child.
SOtenee shows how all important is this
influence before- birth, but has not yet
found out what germs of character are
earliest developed i aud fostered by the
magnetism ' of a. mother's love, on the
• physical and mental growth.. A little
child can oiliy judge of you by your
action. Itis no use • preaching at or to
him. Neveir deeelveyoer child. If you
once do heay never. believe you again.

out of door. The . best physicians for
many complaints are --:-Dr. Diet, .Dr.

- Quiet and r. Merryman ;-diet, rest
an4 cheerfulness. Every 'child ought to
have his flower garden --;--is plot of ground
that he inay cal his very own -that he
may to his heart's content, .dig an&
delve, and plant and sow. A quacking
mother (one: who is alwaysdosing her
children) it a misfortune and makes
plenty of work for the doctors. Some
mothers deserve a whipping more than
de,their children; she having encourag-
ed a -fault by bad management, is the
"real offender.-- Pr. Chavasse, F. R. C. -
