By VOTING for CHAS. C. LEE, you arc voting for a
man who has always been AND IS very much in favor
of the Old Age Pension.
At the nomination, the Mayor stated he could show Mr.
Lee where he signed a petition, along with others, asking
the public to vote in favor of the Ontario West Shore
Railway. At present, 1 have no recollection of this, but,
it i did it was on the strength of the men who were behind
the proposition, one of whom was His Worship. H. J. A.
MacEwan, and, with such men behind this proposition,
1 could not see why it could not be brought to a success-
ful issue, especially with the large amount of money that
was guaranteed by the four differstit municipalities,
but in a very short time the money was all used and
practically nothirg to show for it, and the town has
been put to the expense of interest of $7,500.00 yearly,
on the guarantee of this bond for $150,000.00. We have
already paid $127,500.00 in interest and still have $75,-
000 more interest to pay; then, the principal of $150,-
000. Out of the sale of the wreck, Goderich s pro rata
share was $48,214.30 .Thir amount at interest and
ccmpound interest at 51 2 per cent. which is the rate of
interest received on 1934 Government Bonds and pro-
viding we get 51 2 pt centon the new bonds, in 1938,
when the bonds are due, there will be a balance of $16,-
882.54 still unpaid, which will have to he taken care of
by s new bond issue and the principal and interest will
have to 6it taken out of our taxes.
ti o
a The above, along with the empty factories (with upkeep B
O cost ) plus the McMichael case which could have been 0
settled for $300.00 at the time and which later cost us
about $2600.00, is the cause of our high taxes.
VOTE for CHAS. C. LEE, who will work for your inter'
I
este, not using you for a stepping stone to higher political
honors.
