The driver was unhurt. The car, valued at ap- proximately $8,000, was ex- tensively damaged. The dragster was com- pletely reinforced by roll bars and was equipped with a padded cockpit and seat straps. The driver wore an asbestos suit in the event of fire if the car should crash. Dragway officials said that the driver might well have been fatally injured if the dragster had been less well equipped. Luckil y, the St. John's Ambulance Corps was on tap Sunday for the first time since the track opened.
