The Lions Club Wishing
Well on the beach attracts
many curious eyes. At first
glance it is a bit of quaint
old C a n a d i a n n a looking
somewhat desolate on a
crowded beach. At second
glance it becomes a quiet
oasis in the midst of acres
of sunbaked sand.
Two lions guard the money
thrown into the wishing well
by kindly passersby, who
wish at the "magical" wa-
ters.
All proceeds go to the aid
of handicapped children.
There is a way of doin'
everything, if you only know
how to go about it.

From My Window
By SHIRLEY KELLER
The other day I watched in
sheer amazement as a
station wagon lumbered by
loaded to the hilt with Mom,
Dad, Baby, (complete with
playpen, crib, buggy and
highchair), four kids aged
about 2 to 6 and a shaggy,
hot Collie dog.
What a jolly way to spend
a holiday!
Can you imagine the ex-
asperation on such an ex-
cursion as that? Only aSaint
would return sound of mind
with soul intact!
Ponder five tiny bodies
itching from mosquito bites!
Or ten tiny hands reaching
for china in the souvenir
shop! Or fifty tiny toes
stomping in the poison ivy!
Or a hundred tiny pinkies
grubbing in the charcoal pit
in the park!
Imagine the joy of riding
in a car with the big dog
See the enraptured ex-
pression on Mom's face when
she remembers she has for-
gotten to bring Tommy's ted-
dy -bear and he won't go to
sleep without it!
This is "togetherness"
above and beyond the call
of duty. No one need subject
themselves to punishment
like this. Marriage is not the
only institution you will be in
if you vacation in this man-
ner!
Nevertheless, I maintain
that there should be an award
given to all those stirling
parents who brave the haz-
ards of a family fun -fest!
Nothing less than the Purple
Heart will do!
Boats Lighted
Boats on the lake MUST
have lights, if operated after
dark.
Ontario Provincial Police
Corporal Robert Fulton re-
ports that three people were
charged on Saturday night
with a violation of the law
in this regard. The law ap-
plies, said the corporal,
whether the boat is motor,
row or sail.
A] r.°, speeding in the river
or the harbour is prohibited,
and fair caution among
swimmers is expected.
Dam Tenders
Tenders have been called
for the construction of the
Parkhill dam. Deadline has
been set for Thursday, Aug-
ust 27.
It is expected that con-
struction will start as soo.i
a:, possible after the con-
tract has been approved.
soaking wet after a dip in
the lake! Or the ecstasy of
having Rover shake sand,
water and fleas all over the
picnic lunch!
Picture the scene as Dad
drives in bumper -to -bumper
traffic to the tune of "I wan-
na drink" or "I feel sick,
Mommy" or "When are we
going to be there?"
