Helen and Bill Sturdevant welcome you to their coffee -bar in the newly enlarged Laundro-
mat. Soft drinks, coffee, chocolate bars and popsicles are available. There's bleach, de-
tergent and soap — all your favourite brands of wash day helpers.

Ten automatic washing
machines (top loading May -
tags), three more driers and
another 25 pound extractor
are just some of the things
that are accommodated in the
newly enlarged Laundromat
here at Grand Bend. It's
rather wonderful that an ex-
tension of 24 x 36 feet can
supply room for all of the
extras that are there.
In addition there are a pair
of coin-operated dry-clean-
ing machines, so that you
can get that job done during
the same visit to the Laun-
dromat.
There are a pair of coin-
operated irons so that the
entire wash can be finished
right on the spot.
There's a shower. Quite
popular with campers,
yachtsmen and others.
There is a coffee -bar, with
snacks available, and a soft
drink dispenser for that
cooling rest while the driers
spit. A supply of wash day
specialties are a v a i l a b l e
from the' coffee -bar, too.In-
cluded are soaps, bleach, de-
tergent, starch, etc.
First Load in 1960
Summer of 1960 saw the

24 -Hour Day
For Washers
There's a lot of cleaner
people in Grand Bendy due
to the installation of a show-
er in the Laundromat operat-
ed by Helen and Bill Sturde-
vant on Highway 21 south.
For fifty cents, you get
towels and soap and enough
warm water to satisfy the
biggest shower buff.
Of course, jumping in the
lake is fine, but in the show-
er, one doesn't have that
trouble with sandy feet after-
wards.

Grand Bend Holiday, July 31, 1964
since then, many a weary
camping mother has breath-
ed a sigh of relief to find a
place to get her brood clean-
ed up again.
For four years, there were
18 washers and six driers.
There was a vending machine
for detergent and bleach, and
another for pretty blue
plastic bags in which to carry
home the clean clothes.
There was a soft drink dis-
penser, a coin changer for
those who had quarters, but
not enough dimes and chairs,
tables and magazine racks,
all for the comfort of the cus-
tomers.
None of this has been
changed. It has just been add-
ed to. Helen and Bill Sturde-
vant, and their four daugh-
ters, Donna, Ann, Mary and
Susie are all quite proud of
their enterprize, and wel-
come visitors to the place
24 hours a day.
William Sturdevant, which
sounds very formal for a
friendly guy that he is, is a
former reeve of the village,
a past president of the Grand
Bend Lions Club and an ener-
getic worker as a director of
the Grand Bend and Area
Chamber of Commerce.
Helen, his charming wife,
is president of the Evening
Unit, United Church Women
of the Grand Bend United
Church. She was Helen Love,
daughter of William Love and
the late Mrs. Love, also of
Grand Bend.
Bill actually comes from
Parkhill, and is a continuing
booster of that community,
as well as Grand Bend.
He has gained some fame
in the plumbing and heating
business — for he has instal-
led that part of the construc-
tion of several public schools
in Lambton County.
This year, though, he does
very little plumbing. The en-
larged Laundromat takes up
most of a 20 -hour day.
Thank You !
Sincere thanks to our customers for
their patience during our ren ovations
this spring and summer. Our aim is to
make living in Grand Bend as pleasant
as possible,
Helen and Bill Sturdevant
