Letter from Brooklin in Appreciation
Two weeks ago the HOLI-
DAY printed a story entitled
"Shoes Mailed to New York"
which detailed the sending on
of a pair of shoes to a
travelling doctor who just
happened to leave them on the
beach here when he stopped
for a swim.
Following is a letter re-
ceived by clerk Murray A.
DesJardins, from Dr. Rich-
ard Brown, upon receipt of
the shoes in Brooklyn, New
York:
"Dear Friend in Canada,
On June 15, I graduated from
the University of Minnesota
Medical School. My wife, son
and myself were travelling
from Minneapolis, through
Canada, to New York City
where I would be beginning
my one year of internship.
After entering Canada at
Sarnia, we turned north and
stopped for lunch and a swim
at the lovely beach in Grand
Bend. After lunch, we went
on our way to Stratford. When
we were about 30 miles from
Grand Bend, I discovered
that I had left my shoes.
"The only thing I could
think of doing was either to
call someone there or go
back. We decided to call,
and most fortunately, I had
the good fortune of talking
with you. I am indeed in-
debted to you for your per-
sonal interest in my problem
and for the action and effort
you made in returning the

shoes to me. Having this ex-
perience with you helps me
to realize that people can be
very kind, even to those they
do not know.
"You took a gamble on a
person's word and I hope
this check will be adequate
evidence of my appreciation.
"Most sincerely, Richard
Brown."
The cheque enclosed was
for $4.00 and the clerk wrote
back to Dr. Brown in ap-
preciation, inviting him to
visit the clerk's office the
next time he was in Grand
Bend— at which time, the
clerk offered to buy Dr.
Brown a coffee.

If any one ever had any
doubt as to the existence of
a Divine Provider, the op-
eration of democratic insti-
tutions is sufficient to dispel
that doubt, as nothing short
of Divine Power could hold
together such elements of
chaos.
