On Monday last a five yea old daugh-

fell off a chair and pulled the table over
on top of herself ani' cut quite a gash

lir Thos. Vail, of Centralia, met ;with
a painful avoidant last week. It seems
he was in the act of descending from a
straw stack on the premises of Mr
William Wood, when some one on the
etaok threw straw on him causing him to
miss the ladder and fall heavily on tate
stone bottom below, breaking some of
his ribs and otherwise injuring him.
What might have been a serious acci•
dent happened last Monday,when Robert
J., son of Joseph Clegg, drover of Morris
was returning after leaving his father at
Bruseele. While crossing the bridge, op-
posite Mr Somervilles, a plank broke and
the horse's two front feet went down,
throwing it on its 'head. The result of
the accident was a broken shaft and some
broken harness, along with some bad
bruises on the horse.
A runaway accident ocouired between
Walton and Leadbury on Monday even-

ladies and a child. Mrs William Brayer
and a child and Mrs Edward Driecol were
returning from Walton, when the two-
year-old colt which they were driving be•
- --cadge-frightened,-unmanageable; and ---ran
down the road at a terrific pace, upsetting
the carriage and throwing Mrs Driecol
violently against a wire ienee, inflicting
serions wounds oil the neck, cheek and
arm. By only a miracle she was -saved
from what seemed to be a certain death.
An Ethel corespondent writes as fol

was tendered Rev.J.T.Legear and bride at
the parsonage on their arrival home from
their bridal tour. About seventy people
young and old, Methodists and •Presby-
terians, assembled and enjoyed a very
pleasant time. After supper the evening
was spent ip social chitchat and getting
acquainted with one another. Rev. Mr
Legear expressed his thanks to the friends
for thsair kindness in thus welcoming bis
briMeud himself to Ethel. 'The people,
mentally',, voted the pastor and bis wife a
whole sonled couple and look for a pro.

the young folks are desirous of retaining
Miss Legear as a resident too. Among
the number we noticed a young clergyman.

MONTREAL LIVE STOCK' MARKET
The supply ofbutchere'cattle continues
larger than is needed to meet the demand
yet there are but few really good beeves
among them, and some of the best butch-
ers complain that they cannot get as
good quality of cattle as they require for
their best customers. About 4c per lb.ia
the highest rate given, but choice animals
would bring from one-quarter .to half a
cent more. Pretty geed animate sell at
from 3o to 30 per lb,,00mmon stock from
20 to 3o do., and lean beasts from 1;c
to 20 per ib..,.Calves are scarce, ..and
pretty high•priced coneider'ingihegaality
There are fair supplies of mutton critters,
so tar as numbers are concerned: but the
quality is not up to other seasons, as the
beat lambs are being bought tip for ship.
went to the United States. , Sheep sell at
from $2.75 to $5.50 eaob, and lambs at
from $2.25 to _ $4.25 eaoh. The horse
trade is fairly active, there being a good
local demand. as well as for 'exporting
to the United States, The shipments of
horses from here to the United States
last week numbered 81 horses, costing
$8,631.50 or an average of $106.57. The
highest priced large lot was 15. horses,
cost $1,742, and the lowest priced lot
were 16 horses which cost $1,412,50.
Hogs were scarce lately, and sold for 50
per 1b., bat there are larger supplies and
butchers are holding back for a reduction
in prices.
