A singular story was told at an inquest at
Sheffield as to the cause of death of a
young Married woman named Clara Eliza-
beth Smith. A neighbor found that the
lock of his front door had gone wrong, and
he•had to get through a bedroom window.
She was laughing heartily at his misfor-
tune, and suddenly fell down unconscious,
dying shortly afterward. The actual
cause of death was apoplexy, brought on
by laughter.—Pall Mall Gazette.

That is to say your lungs. Also all your

bat the thousands of little tubes and cavities
leading hem them.
.1/ hen these are clogged and choked with
matter which ought not to be thore, your lungs
cannot half do their work. ' And what they
do, tbey cannot do well.
Call it cold,cougb,oroup,pneumonie catarrb,
consumption or any of the family of throat
and note and head and lung obstructions, all
are bad, All ought to be got rid of. There
is just one sure way te.get rid of thefts.' That
is to take Boscbee's German Syrup, which any

An insurance paper has been colle.ctin
the statistics of suicide in the United

P. C. MacCourt of Washington, has re-
ceived a letter from W. E. Gladstone in
response to a note urging him to•visitthis
country. • Mr. Gladstone says::—My age
as well as my engagements precludes my
visiting America, but I never lose an op-
portunity (and I found an excellent one
at Cardiff) of saying what seems to me
likely to strengthen the union of our coun-

Two boys were flying kites. One of the
lads, whose name was Yessup, when about
400 yards of string had been paid out, asked
his father to write a message and send it up
the kite. The old man sat down and wrote
this:—"Send some rain, Yessup." The
message climbed up the the string. A bird
circling high in ,the air winged its way to
the bit of paper which it pecked viciously
An hour later the kite was hauled in by the
boy. The paper was in tatters, the only
part of the message remaining intact being
this portion of the signeture,'•Yes." Two
hours later a son'easter came up, and rain
fell in torrents.
An exchange tells of a " crazy sociable"
which recently took place in Trumbull
County, O. The butter was brought in
handcuffed to a bulldog, the cheese was
chloroformed to prevent escape, the coffee
was served with a straw,. the ,neat came in
imitation of boot and shoe soles, and the
blscuids were loaded and unloaded from
plate to plate by' means of derricks. A.
still crazier one must have been a recent
entertainment given by a Chicago church,
the young 'men of which had formed a
cooking class and prepared all the.refresh-
ments of the evening. It said that some
of the dishes were really eaten.

The Rev. Dr. Cochrane, in his address
before the Presbyterian Assetnbly at Win-
•nipeg, gave some interesting statements in
connection with tho Presbyterian Church
of Canada and its operations. He said that
they had spent nearly $100,000 during the
year for mieei fns. They had 713 mission
etations,t,f which 302 were in Manitoba and
the Northwest. Mr. S•ewnrt, of Glasgow,
who waa sent as adeputy from the General
Assembly of Scotland made a particularly
felicitous speech. He spoke of Canada ae
_a country nearly as large as the while of
Europe, and with a climate as varied as
that between Italy and INorwayi a.1atl i
which the vine and the peach,as well ast{
wheat and maize, grew and flourished.
An importantclericallcase has just been
disposed of by the New Brut.swick Metho-
dist Conference. Three years . ago, Rev.
D. D. Currie fell from grace, a• charge of
unministerial conduct of a flagrant
des-
cription having been craves against him.
He, however, alleged that blackmail lay
at the bottom of the case, and as he was a
leading member of the conference, and
had hitherto led an exemplary .life, time
to substantiate his defence was given him.
When' the next:conference met, Mr Currie,
to the surprise of his ministerial brethren,
interposed with an injunction from the
court, granted on the ground that by
Methodist discipline the charge should
hive been decided by the same annual
conference as first proceedings, and that
handing theni
matter
over
to next
confer-
ence was illegal.; The conference was na-
turally indignant that their kindness had
been thus taken advantage of, and when
the case came up this year a new charge
was made against the accused. ,He again
applied to the Supreme Court for injunc-
tion, but before it could be heard the con-
ference took up his case, and dismissed
him from the ministry and expelled him
from the conference. Whether the nese
injunction is granted or reed the
Methodist authorities assett that no court
cannot again constitute him a Methodist
preacher.
