A monster Conservative convention
is to be held' in Toronto on Tuesday
22nd inst. As delegates are requested
to bo in attendance from every consti-
tuency in' the Province, the Conserva-
tives of this county should lose no time
in calling the meetings o£ the different
associations, ajid appointing their re-
presentatives. There is, nothing like
organization,, even if we have a. po-
pular Government, as many a consti-
tuency, through not being properly or-
ganized, has, been lost to the party.
We hope our friends will make a move
in the matter immediately, .and be
fully prepared for the Cpnvention in
question.
• • ris. Grits seem to have taken an-
other than the usual meaning from the
gold Romst, policy of "divide, and rule."
They appear to believe that one-half o£
them can adopt as their motto,
Changes in the constitution of the
Senate," while the other half may
adopt as their motto, "No change '•
'that one-half may follow Mr, Blake in
his later notion of independence and
consequent absorption, while the other
half may still believe in Mr. Blake and
his earlier notion of Iinperial Federa-.
Con ; that some may declare that the.
present Government wisely handed
over the . North-West railway:; to the..
syndicate, while others may °denounce.
that transfer asone, of the foolish
things clone by the .present . Govern-
ment ; that some may,. like Alderman
Stephens, of Montreal, declare them,.
solves,Liberals and.protectionists, while
others may she in .protection the sum
of all villainies. ' In fact, the Opposi-
tion. appear to think that they will re
eommend''themsejlves to the pubiio son -
timer of this country by plainly show-
ing tat they don't know where they.
are, not -What theywant. Zi/. •
