DEAR Silt,--xn this week's issue of
the Neal Rea, "Enquirer" asks among
other cluestionS if " Kissing Rees,"
"Pleasure - Daneiug," and "Cantata,"
:(lietutiug Cantatas plural) aro not
;nuisances ilttrousistant9wit1i a profession
of christianity.. .A;lle is apparently
i,guoraut on the subject, I would answer
that all nuisances are inconsistent° with
Christianity, and sometimes with -its
profession. As to' the liras+, two prac-
tises mentioned, 1 cannot speak with
such authority as T can to the latter,
not being a practitioner in their line.
As to cantatas I have had some expert-
ence in their working and a close oh -
server of their influence on others, as
well as possessing testimonials of chris-
tien ministers rind noted men of high
u)eutal. and spirital attain:inent, . and
whose opinions are entitled to respect'
from a knowledge of their working.
The only praetical question of import-
ance in "Enquirer's" letter is iii rela-
tion to cantatas which is;, "Are they de-
moralizing in their& tendency 4,' If they
are, no person has any tight to engage
in or attend them; whether professing
ehristiauity or _a:ot. ,f they ' are
'elevating and enobling in their ten.

give for attending such.
