British. Grain. Trade,.
London,. Aug 8.—The Mark Lame
Expraas says :--The weather during the.
week .has enabled the farmers, where
machinery was available, to thresh in
the fields. There have been a few sam
pies of the new crops at the provential
exchanges, of which the quality haw
been variable and the yield not above
the average. The samples, however, do
bot; afford an index as to harvest.re-
sults. The Scotchwheat crop is un-
favorably reported. Trade has been
uncertain on account of harvesting.
In a few ..of the provincial exchanges
rates have advanced since the holidays,
on aocount of• the scarcity of grain,
buyers being, reserved and operating;
meagerly. • In London the supply was
nominal and quotations unchanged.
The foreign trade has been unchanged.
The supply was; moderately scarce, and
the demand small. Buyers were reti-
'cent, and rates were generallyagainst
them. Attempts to enchance Proven-
tial values merely checked . business:
Flour has been .in small supply and
clearer, and the trade has been generally
quiet, the supplies being absorbed by.
the consumptive demand; Maize im-
proved three pence on Friday. The
Daises of speculative movement, which
exerted .0. dull influence . on the maize
is the short loss of fodder crops. • Ear-
ley has been nominal; Foreign was in
small supply and firm., Oatswere in
good request, Foreign was in, large
supply, but with fair. demand, .and
maintained rates. Off the coast sixteen
cargoes•of breadstuffs'arrived during the
week,•of :which -thirteen have been soli:,;
eleven' from the Atlantic •and two from
California ports. The forward trade
has been almost, suspended, because of
foreign. values being higher' than here.
The quantity on passage decrease): The
sales of England wheat during:the•week
