The Opposition since that Mime have\been jubilant, claiming that €he result is a direct condemnation of the Syndicate bergain. The election was 'a personal one. --not a political one. Mr. ICennedy was an Irish Ro- man Catholic,'and 111r. °router was a Protestant and au Orangeman, From the time of Mr, Kennedy's nomination, the sectarion cry was raised and kept up, evidently witie effect, until the,. poll was .closed.
