Postal Strike Threat Hamers local
Mail Service
The proposed postal strike,
which will presumably take effect
this Thursday morning, has al-
ready effected mail service to loc-
al residents. The government
embargo on ccrain classes of mail
went Into force here Tuesday
night and the last mailing time
for outgoing letters was five p.m.
on Tuesday.

post. office will remain open for
the usual hours. The services he.
offers will be unaltered — the
only problem is you will be able
to post letters but they will not
leave the Blyth office until the
strike has ended.
The mail truck which travels
from Clinton to Londesboro, Blyth
and Auburn, will continue to op.
crate but it is expected his load
will be practically nil as pickets
are expected to he operating at
the Clinton office, and therefore
he will be unable to pick up mail.
Much of the Clinton mail has been
rerouted to Blyth for sorting and
mailing after the strike' has end.
ed.
Local rural mail carriers will
continue to make deliveries, but
here again, their load will be at
an absolute minimum due to the
lack of incoming mail.
The strike and embargo pres•

WHEW --- IT'S HOT
We've all probably heard those
words spoken more in the last
few days than we have during
the past quite a few years. And
the reason? — Well I guess we
Pee Wee Winnning
We wanderd up to the ball park
last Thursday night and witnessed
an excellent local team in action,
The Blyth pee woos — young lads
twelve and under --- have come
up with what appears to be a win-
ning combination and fielded and
batted their way to an overwhelm-
ing win over Lucknow.
We were told at the game that
the boys haven't lost a game this
year and were unaware that we
had an undefeated team in the
village. Perhaps we could put a
firecracker under someone con-
nected with the team to give us
-a few details about the games.
We would be only too glad to re-
cord scores and dates of future
games. With' so many' tgants play-
ing In the community this , year . it
is impossible for us to keep track
of them all, We must depend on
team officials to keep; us posted':
of the happenings of -their teams,
Londesobro, Auburn, Walton and
Brussels, with the hope that post-
masters in those post offices will
receive them,
Just what will happen in the
weeks to come is anybody's guess
and from our own point of view,
we are just "playing it by ear"
from now until the end of the
strike. But rest assured we will
do our utmost to see that all local
subsribers receive their paper as
soon as possible each week. Sub-
scribers from a distance will be
forced to wait until the strike .is
over and then probably receive
several issues at one•ttme. If the
worst conies to the worst we will
have no alternative but to cancel
publication until the strike has
ended.
don't have to tell you that this
area has witnessed the most pro•
longed hot spell we have had in
many years — and it's still with
us!, Weather reports indicate it
will be for several days to come.
On Tuesday the themometer
reached 87 degrees — which
doesn't seem too bad at all. But
when combined with the high
amount of humidity in the air,
the humidex count reached the
104 degrees. And anybody Will
tell you that's just too da . • •
—well, darned — hot!
Everyone ' is trying their own
methods of combating the heat
and maybe we can offer a `tug-
gestion right now that will not
only, help the good woman of the
household, but will also assist one
of our local organizations: The
Conservation Club is holding a
chicken barbeque supper Friday
evening at the club house in East
Wawanosh Township. Tyre are
plenty of shade trees available
and the food will be fit for a king.
Why not take the family out for
supper and give the wife a rest
away frririi the hot kitchen?
And how long ,viii it last? 'Well,
never fear. Our holidays are
coming up next month and we
ran 'nlmokt.:gitarantee cooler and
`wetter "weather.

WE NEED PARENT ;POWER
An interesting and rather frightening manifestation of tlhe

Among the millions of words', with which we are constantly born-

barded by the ,mass media, that one Rws up , with ,alarming frequency.
There's nothing wrong with ,the word itself. It's not a
dirty wOrd,' We don't :get alarmed when we think of such terms
as ,power plant, power boat, power drill, power of attorney, or
hockey's power play.
We aren't spooked when we .think of mental power or Phys.
Ical power or spiritual power•. The word merely denotes strength.
But in the way itis used so often those bays, it has more
sinister connotations. It has undertones of hatred and senseless
rebellion, It suggests smasht}tg somebody or something,
We have been carefully acclimatized; Nye have accepted,
because of timidity or indifference, the Ideas of air power and union
power and political power and lobby power.
And now lye have ,Mack ,Power anll Student Power,' both
of them with built-in provocations to violence and brutality. The
only one that seems fairly harmless is k'le,wer Power, but even this
is associated with drubs,'sexirai rojniscujty and anarchy.
It's fairly obvious that I can't turn this 'pernicious tide of

T1iF LORD WILLING , • ,
"A word with you, you who say: today or °t.otttor•
row we will go off to such and such ,u town and
spend a year there trading and making money."
(,lames 4: 13,17)
This is a true•lil'e picture!
People who live today already in "tomorrow," saying "we will tbls"
and "we will that,"
What is wrong with that?
Does not the Bible condemn the fernier, who neglects his farming
business? And the employee who is wasting the time of his employer?
What is James trying to say?
Well, these -business=men give us a picture of spiritual highantnded•
ness, thinking highly of themselves. And they show this style of
life in earthly life! They "rejoice in their boastings" (vs. -16),
They act as if they have the disposal of today and tomorrow, as if
THEY 'decide about life and clreumstancesl
'17hc •point is not, that James criticizes That they are diligent and
industrious, but it is their arrogant self.assurance, their craving
for power as if 'lliIEY were the producers and managers of lifel
In this ,picture of social -life and businessJlfc we see an eloquent
portrait of the man, who denies his dependence on God.
So it is manifested in a thousand ways in the life of young and.old.
But James says: "Yet you have no idea what tomorrow will bring.
Your life, what is it? You are no more than a mist, sten for a
little while and then dispersing."
We all know that natural phenomenon, that a hazy mist wanders over
the fields but the sun breaks through and the mist disappears!
So is human life. -
As a mist!
'!`herefore life without God is vanity,
'rhe only way to be saved will be that we will gain an insight iv the
fact that God is the Lord and that God rules our destiny,
Do not neglet this accent in the Bible.
We, driven by our sinful nature, try to flee from God,
But IIe overtakes us by His Word,
He lays His hand upon your shoulder.
lie will bring us to repentance,
iie is the God of salvation.
And what you ought to say is: if it he the Lord's will, we shall live
to do this or that,
Faith manifests' itself in a complete surrender of our life under
the dominion of Jesus, to the Glory of God, ---

REPORT
by Murray Gaunt, M.P.P.
(Huron -Bruce)
Several days this week were tak•
en up in discussing the Estimates
of the Attorney General.
The Attorney General, Arthur
Wishart, said he found interesting
and thought provoking a suggest•
ion that electronic eavesdropping
be made a violation 01' civil rights
in Ontario.
The Opposition suggested police
forces in Ontario be required by
statute to obtain permission from
the Attorney General before tieing
any; . wire tapping as part of trim•
inal investigations. Under these
c'.rcumstances the police would
have to use reasonable and prob-
able grounds that an offence was
about to be committed or that ev.
idence could be Obtained about
an offence already committed or
that there is organized crime in.
volved in a• particular geographic-
al area,
Education ,llinister, William
Davis, this.week introduced a bill
,unending the Schools Administra•
lion Act.
Among the changes proposed
the Bill are new limits for the
honorariums, school boards are
able to vote to trustees and the
13i11 also gives school hoards the
same power to invest money as
'municipal councils - now have,
However, the Bill lacked a re•
quest made by the Teachers Fed.
cration to include permission for
Transfer Review Boards made nee.
cssary in the Federation's opinion
because under the new County
School Board system a board could
arbitrarily transfer teachers any•
where within the, county, The Re•
view Board woul, in effect, sub•
mit the decision of a school board
to transfer a teacher to an appeal
procedure at the request of the
teacher.
