The Lenden Daily News says : 'A
strange store' has come to ns from Boston,
-Massachusetts. A young girl, we are teld
whose parents kept a pension in the town. ,
had expressed a wish to atteud a hall in
the neighbourheod, nnder the escert of a
gentleman residing at the time as a board
er in the honsa. Her request being re-
fused, she flew into a fit of pasaion,
whie she said that if they did not allow
her ttS go tO the ball with her lover she
would gn with the devil himselfeif he
would take her. On the evening of the
ball she slipped out of the house 1111 -
(lb -served. and to her surprise met her
lover in the street. Hp accompanied her
to the_ball upon which she bad set her
heart, danced the first dance with her,
took ber doa-n to supper, and ended by
escorting her to her oare door. As be
bade her good night he gave her a beauti-
fully carrell pearl -handled penknife, and
told her whenever she nsed it to think of
him. With these words he stiodenly vanish-
ed, and the unhappy girl, on entering her
home, was told to her dismay that her
lover, instead of having, as she had sup•
posed, accompanied her to the ball, bad'
been in the house the whole evening, and
that he was at that very moment soundly
asleepin his bed Terrified at this announce-
ment, which she seetns to have implicitly
believed, she retired to her own room, and
in the cont se of the night committee suicide
by npemng her veins with the fatal knife
given tn her by the my-steriotis stranger.
What to make of the story we can hardly
tell."

Roll on !

What, though I cannot meet my bilis?,

What., thouoh I swallow countless pills ?
Never you mind !
Roll on !
Roll on, thou ball, rcll on !
Through seas of inky air
Roll !

It's tnie my prnspects all look bine-
But don't let that nnsettle you !
Never yeu mind !
