ship captains have communicated

use„'a problem developed, The
stertor ships used air whistles in-
stead of steam whistles, Conse-
quently their whistle blasts tvere
accompanied by no billowing
plumes of steam. Since the steam
could not he seen, ships' captains
had no way of knowing which of
perhaps a half dozen motor ships
anchored in the salve general vici-

John flays Ifatnlnand, one of
the most prolific of American in-

ship with a visual, as well as an
auditory signal. Ile has de-

air whistle is sounded. Thus it
will be possible to "see" the sound

whistles mean a lot to those who

portions of our country.

DOWN WITH 'EM!
One of the first things citizens of European towns liberated by Allied
forces do is to let the world know what dm think of their erstwhile
Nazi and Fascist masters, Typical reactions are shown above, At
left, a Frenchman smashes a swastika erected by Nazis over a trium-
phal arch. At right, a Roman policeman risks his neck to tear down
the black fl5g of Fascism from a public building.

trouble and misery, brought on by
their unfailfulness to (sod, the
people of Isra(1 cried unto Minn for
help. .\s so many do, they prayed
to 1;o l only when they were in
trouble.
Deborah, The Leader
"Now Deborah, a prnphcte;s, the
sift\ of Lappidotlt, she judged
Israel at that time , . , and the
children of Israel carte up to her
for judgment." Deborah was an
inspired leader and chief, and
roused the nation to action and
with Barak led the army into bat-
tle. She encouraged the people to
trust in the Lord and look to hint
for deliverance.
Deborah's Plan
"And she sent and called Barak
the son of A binoarn out of Kedesh-
naphtali , , , and I will deliver hint
into thy hand," \Viten the army of
Siser.. had been drawn to the
t'ecr now dry, God would cause
the rain suddenly to descend arid
the river would overflow its hanks
and the land become flooded. The
heavy chariots would be imbedded
in the stud tunable to stove, and
then from Mount Tabor, Barak
would sweep down upon them and
slaughter the foes of Israel.
Deborah and Barak
"And Bartle said onto her, ,
and Deborah arose, and went with
Barak to Kedesh." Deborah ac-
companied Barak right up to the
hem. of battle, and scented to have
been his strength and confidence.
"And Sisera gathered together all
his chariots , , , and Sisera alighted
from his chariot, and fled away
on his feet." Sisera trusted in his
chariots but God made them use-
less, for they floundered in the
111ud, alltd the proud pagan captain
had to trust to his feet and 'not
to his swift steeds for flight. God's
armies are invisible but they be-
come very real to Ilis people in
time of distress.
Israel Is Deliverer)
"But Barak pursued after the
chariots, and after the (lost, unto
Haroshcth of the Gentiles, and all
the host of Sisera fell by the edge
of the sword; there was not a man
left." Israel was completely de-
livered again. By whom? i-)eborah?
Barak, the Army? No, by (sod who
used there, it was the I.ord's work
and to 1-11111 Deborah raised her
hymn of thanksgiving (Judg 5:
1-5).
