service was held in Brucefie'ld
United ChClrch on Sunday evening.
The service was conducted by the
CGIT Girls, under the leadership
of Mrs. Davison, Mrs. Geo. Clif-
ton and -Mrs. Mel. Graham,
Mrs. Bruce Mennary, Bayfield,
visited a few days with relatives
in the village.
Mr. Robert Mustard! spent the
weekend with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Alex Mustard.
The many friends of Miss Beth
Murdoch are sorry to hear she is
ill in Hamilton Hospital.

Mrs. Keith Lindsay and Pamela
returned Sunday to Napanee after
visiting for the past three weeks
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. Lind-
say in St. Marys.
Members of Hensall Legion Lad-
ies' Auxiliary chartered a bus to
London on Monday to give a
Christmas party to the residents
of the Red Cross Eric Reid Old
Soldiers' Home, London. Each of
the thirty residents were present-
ed with a lovely Christmas parcel.
A period of carol singing was en-
joyed and refreshments served.
The affair was much enjoyed,
White Gift Service
White ;.Gift service was held in
Chiselhurst United Church Sunday
with a splendid congregation. The
church was decorated in• Ch rist-
mas Motif. Members of the Mis-
sion Band assisted with the ser-
vice.
The service opened with Call to
Worship by Rev. C. D. Daniel;
prayer by Patricia Harris; poem,
Eric Ross; scripture passages read
by Robert Drummond; recitation,
Bruce Drummond. The Christmas
story, in two parts, was given by
Mrs. Harold Parker and Mrs. Ted
Taylor, with prayer by Da'id
Brock. Robert Munn offered a
prayer of dedication following the
placing of the gifts.
Rev. Daniel spoke briefly, and
Miss Dorothy Parker sang a love-
ly solo, accompanied by her sis-
ter, Geraldine, at the piano. Mrs.
A. Ross presided at the piano for
the service.
Baptize At Gift Service
White Gift Service was held in
the United Church on Sunday
morning. The offering, the largest
in years, amounted to $378, to go
to the children—and widows of
Korea and Eastern Territories, and
some to Northern Home Territor-
ies'
Paul Anthony, infant son of Mr.
and Mrs. Dave Kyle; Deborah
Pearl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Wayne Smith; Linda Lee, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. George Beer,
and Brian Arthur, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Traquair, of' Wood-
stock, received the rites of bap-
tism, conducted by Rev. C. D.
Daniel.
For his sermon topic, Rev. Dan-
iel spoke on "The Wise Men's
Gifts." The choir sang appropri-
ate music under direction of S.
Rannie, with Miss G. Lammie at
the church organ. The church was
filled for the special services.
In charge of the lovely Christ-
mas decorations in the church
were Mrs. Jack Simmons, Mrs.
Gordon Munn, Mrs. Don Joynt
and Mrs. Ken Elder.
A safety sign read: "School—
Don't Kill a Child!"
Beneath written in -.a child's
scrawl: "Wait for the Teacher."
District Obituaries
DR. J. McTAGGART
HENSALL.—Dr. J. A. McTag-
gart, of Exeter, died Sunday in
South Huron Hospital in his 80th
yaar. He had been ailing for sev-
eral months,, but was in hospital
only a few days. •
Dr. McTaggart was born in Hay
Township and attended high school
in Seaforth. He graduated from
the Toronto Dental College and
practised his profession in Toronto,
Blyth and for the past number of
years in Hensall. He was fond of
lawn bowling and while in Toron-
to he and his partner carried off
the Ontario championship in dou-
bles. He was united in marriage
with Louie Tierney, who died in
1911.
Surviving is his sister, Nettie,
of town, with whom he resided,
also Mrs. John Glenn (Mable) of
Hibbert; Thomas Edward McTag-
gart, of Virden, Man., and George
Ernest, of Watford. Attending the
funeral were Mr. and 1Vjrs. J. B.
Tierney, of North Bay.
The funeral Tuesday afternoon
was held from the Hopper -Hockey
funeral home with Rev. Norman
Knox officiating, assisted by Rev.
Charles Down. The bearers were
Gerald and Bruce Glenn, Ben
Case, Benson Case, of Georgetown;
J. B. Tierney and Mark McTag-
gart, of London. Interment was
in the Exeter cemetery.
Following interment, the ladies
of Trivia Memorial Church serv-
ed lunch in the parish hall to •
friends attending from a distance,.

the chair. The meeting opened
with a hymn and prayer in mesn-

26 members with a Christmas
verse. All the secretaries gave
good reports, showing a success -
year. The Bible study was tak-
en by Mrs. Smith, and the scrip-
ture lesson was read by Mrs. M.
Godkin,
The Christmas service, taken
from the Missionary Monthly, was
put on by Mrs. Smith, Mrs. W.
Alexander- "and Mrs. Les Pepper.
A Christmas reading was given by
Mrs. William Alexander.

CHRISTMAS' STOCKING
An ancient Dutch tradition says
that St. Nicholas makes his rounds
upon Wodin's horse, Sleipner.
Dutch children set their wooden
shoes in the chimney corners be-
lieving that St. Nicholas would
leave no gifts without the remind-
er. So the shoes of Holland be-
