Fun In Making
Own Decorations
Making your own. Christmas
decorations can be half the .fun
of getting ready for Christmas.
You can make these twin Christ-
mas trees to give a new dimen-
sion to your mantelpiece. Use the
right-side-up tree to decorate the
mantel where gifts are placed, and
hang the upside -down -tree from
the mantel to, hold smaller gifts.
A half -yard of green felt is en-
ough for both trees. Make a
brown paper pattern for the tree
by drawing a right-angled triangle
14 inches high and seven inches
across the bottom. On the side
opposite the right . angle, cut
points to resemble branches. This
gives you a pattern for half a tree
which when used to cut out on a
fold of felt will give you a tree
with both sides exactly the same.
Cut out ;tour trees from the pat-
tern, each on a fold of fejt.
Next, decorate each section of
the tree you plan to use for the
front with sequins. sparkly buttons
or sequinned braid or tinsel. Pin
the decorated felt to the plain . felt
so that all points match exactly.
Then stitch together about % of an
inch from the edge on the sewing
machine. You can make the fin-
ish at each point neat, by raising
the presser foot on the machine to
pivot around the point. Make a
small felt loop and attach it to the

free you wish to hang. Stand the
.then tree on the mantel by stuff-
ing lightly with tissue paper, or
set it over a tall glass or bottle.
To store the tree for next year,
place between layers of tissue pa-
per and lay flat in a shallow box.
Toss in a few mothballs to pro-
tect the felt and seal the box with
