conducted the marriage ceremony
at Russeldale on Friday, October
11., when Ethel Ilene, daughter of
Mr. and Mr. „Cecil Maxwell, of

riage vows.
For her wedding the bride chose
a suit of turquoise blue with red
rose corsage.

ing a corsage of pink roses, and
Frank Johnson, Summerhill, as

and the groom's mother wore navy
blue sheer. Both wore corsages
of pink carnations.
Following a Wedding trip to Nia-
gara Falls and points south, the
young couple will reside in Clin-
ton.

SCOTCHMER—WEBSTER
VARNA.—Baskets of bronze and
yellow chrysanthemums formed
the lovely bridal arch at the 'lame
of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Webster,
Varna, Saturday, October 19, when
their daughter, Joyce Marie, be-
came the bride of Kenneth R.
Scotchmer, Bayfield, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Scotchmer, also of
Bayfield. The Rev. T. J. Pitt,
Varna, performed the double -ring
ceremony.
Given in marriage by her father
the bride was lovely in royal blue
velvet, wearing a corsage of yel-
low "mums".
Maid of honor was the bride's
sister, Miss Lois Webster, of Var-
na, who wore brown; trimmed
with white angora, and wore a
corsage of yellow "mums."
Groomsman was Robert Web-
ster, Varna.
At the reception which followed

MRS, W. P. HALLAHAN
Brussels—Mrs. William P. Halla-
han passed away at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. Clement Steff-
ler. Brussels. on October 18. Mrs.
Hallahan was in her 88th year.,
The former Elizabeth Ann Hay -
don, she was born in Melton in 1870
and was the only surviving member
of a family of 13 children. After
finishing public school there she
worked in the city of Toronto until
her marriage to Mr. Hallahan of
East Wawanosh 60 years ago. Her
husband predeceased her 25 years
ago, and a daughter, Mary Ellen,
died in 1922.
Surviving are five sons. Simon,
John. William J. and Don. East
Wawanosh. and Dennis of Malton;
one daughter. Mrs. C. Sterner, of
Brussels.
The funeral was held from the
home of her son William, 4th con.
East Wawanosh, to St. Michael's R.
C. Church, Blyth, where Solemn
High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr.
J. W. P. Graham, Clinton, assisted
by Rev. Fr, J. McCowell. St, Colum -
ban and Rev, Fr. .1. Urbonskie. St.
Augustine.
Burial mas in St. Michael's ceme-
tery, Morris township. The pall-
bearers were six grandsons. Wm.
E, Hallahan. Maurice Hallahan,
-Michael Hallahan. Frank Hallahan,
Robert Hallahan and Clem F. Steff-
ler.
Friends attended the funeral from
Malton, Brampton, Hamilton, Lis-
towel, Seaforth. Brussels, and
Winghain.

assesrrient roll for taxation in 1958 •
was certified at a total taxable
assessment of $2,698,350.00.
Engineer's certificate of comple-
tion of "A" drain of the Down drain
was presented, drain complete ex-
cept for backfilling. An order was ' •
made to pay the contractor but
that the guarantee deposit be ne-.
tained until such time as the back-
filling is completed and. that the
engineer be paid his superinten-
dence fee. The treasurer was in-
structed .to make application for .
the Provincial Aid to Drainage .
grant on the dramn. cost of $1,723.41. •
Road superintendents report was •
adopted and road accounts passed
for payment amounting to a total
road voucher of $3,106.08. Emer-
son Penhale was retained as an ,
operator for snow work by guaran-
teeing him $285 over a three-month
period beginning December 15.
The road superintendent was in-
structed to take proceedings to col-
lect all 1955 accounts.
Tax collector reported that all
the 1957 tax bills would soon be in
the hands of the ratepayers and
that a few tax accounts had been '
collected. The treasurer reported
receipt of $491.65 from the road
superintendent and receipt of $3,-
088.55 in other amounts to general
account including the balance of
the Unconditional Grant from the
province of $2.385. Balance, of cash
as of October 31 was $5,909.70.
Municipal liability insurance and
non -owned automobile coverage
was renewed with W. H. Hodgson
at a premium •of $212,63 applicable
to road account and $61.86 applic-
able to the general account.
Current accounts including sala-
ries for the year in the amount of
$3,058.18 were passed for payment.
Council agreed to hold the next
meeting on, Monday. December 9,
with the final meeting for the year
on December 16,

Mrs. D. MacDonald and Mrs.
Harry Hoy conducted the worship
period. Mrs. R. Broderick sang
a vocal solo and Miss Carol Brown
gave piano solos. Mrs. W. Brown
accompanied Mrs. Broderick.
The church schoolroom was
lovely decorated with autumn
flowers. Decorating committee
were Mrs. Ed Fink and Mrs. Wm.
Fink. Luncheon was served.
