Located on Godericli Street, just,
..vest of Main Street, the new sta-
titn occupies the area that for
many years was the site of the
Royal Hotel barns. In more re-
cent years the buildings were occu-
pied by Daly Motors. At one time
Daly Motors operated a service
station on the site. ,
In preparing the site for con-
struction, it was necessary to re
move a large elm tree which 'had
stood throughout the life of Sea -
forth. It was one of the last of
the virgin elms left in the town.
" Well -Known Lessee

on an extensive expansion program
in Canada, which~rncludes market-
ing facilities and will include a
modern 20,000 barrels per day re-
finery to be constructed in the
Township of Tralfalgar, near
Bronte,' Ont. The scope of its en-
terprises encompasses exploration,
production, manufacturing, petro-
chemicals, research, transporta-
tion, storage and marketing.
A picture of the organization
petroleum operations together
with those of its affiliates, sweeps
a panorama of all 4$ States of the
Union,, Canada, Central and South
America, Egypt and. Southern
Arabia. Its physical plant em-
braces several of the world's larg-
est and most modern refineries,
refining, lubricating, oil and wax
plants, petro -chemical . and buta-
dien plants,natural gasoline
plants, oil lending and grease
plants and many other manufac-
turing facilities.
Cities Service Oil Company, who
this week opens a new station in
Seaforth, has a long record of
accomplishment in the oil busi-
ness.
In 1910, Henry L. Doherty and
his associates founded the Cities
Service Company. Three subsid-
iaries formed its nucleus: Den-
ver Gas 8a Electrical Company,
Spokane, Washington; Gas & Fuel
Company; Empire and District
Electrical Company, Joplin, Mis-':
souri.
In 1953, fifty-three utility com-
panies were acquired in all sec-
tions of the United States, from
coats to coast, and border to bor-
der.
Having become well entrenched
in the public utility and natural
gas business, it was logical that
Cities Service should actively en-
ter the oil business, which it did
in 1914 and 1915 by discovering oil
fields at Augusta, Kansas, and El
Dorado. This meant the necessity
of building an organization suitable
for handling transportation, stor-
age, marketing and other facilities
to get the product into the hands
of the consumer.
This was the beginning of the
Cities Service system as it is
known today.
Today in Canada and the United
States the Cities Service organiza-
tion is a fully integrated .oil- and , -
natural gas system. It operates
in every phase of the petroleum in-
dustry from the production of
crude oil to the delivery of the fin-
ished product to its customers.
Cities Service has been estab-
lished in Canada for nearly fifty
years. In 1912 it became owner of
the Dominion Natural Gas Com-
pany in Southern Ontario, present-
ly serving 90 communities with
natural gas. In 1922 it started in
thy- oil business in Southern On-
tario, through Cities Service Oil
Company Limited, which was or-
ganized at that time. This Com-
pany is engaged in the marketirr'
of petroleum products in Ontario
and Quebec.
In recent years it established the
Canada Cities Service Company in
Western Canada, which is current-
ly engaged in the exploration_ and
production of crude oil in Alberta.
In 1956, Cities Service embarked
