HUR PR JN I L tJI ERAL :
NAME k TUCKEY PRESIDENT
The annual meeting of the Hur-
on Liberal Association, as consti-
tuted for provincial purposes, was
held in Zurich Friday evening. The
meeting elected Benson W. Tuckey,
Exeter, ass president, succeeding
Ivan Kalbfleisch, of Zurich.
Farquhar Oliver, leader of the
opposition in the Ontario Legisla-
ture, told the meeting the fact the
association was holding its annual
meeting at this time was indicative
of growing interest in the Liberal
program in Ontario. •
Pointing out that the Conserva-
tives in Ontario had long taken
refuge in the fact there had been
a Liberal government in Ottawa,
Mr. Oliver told the meeting there
now could be no excuse on the part
of Mr. Frost for not now easing the
financial problems of municipali-
ties. He warned it could be antici-
pated that Mr. Frost would appeal
to the people before too long, cer-
tainly before it was discovered the
many promises made both federal-
ly and provincially, could not be
met.
Also speaking briefly were James
R. Scott, former provincial candi- I
date; A. Y. McLean, former fed-
eral Liberal candidate; Hugh Haw-
kins, president of the Federei As-'
sociation.
The association adopted a con-
stitution and by-laws prepared by
a committee headed by John A.
McEwan, Brucefield.
The report of the nominating
committee, presented by Earl
Campbell, of Hay Township, was
adopted as follows:
Past president, Ivan Kalbfleisch,
Zurich; president, Benson W.
Tuckey, Exeter; secretar, W. L.
Whyte, Seaforth; treasurer, Geo.
Deichert, Zurich.
