esting three-minute discussion on
her special project, "Raspberries."
The local club, under the leader-
ship of Mrs. W. le Whyte, have
been asked to set up their vege-
table display at Western Fair in

est detachment are investigating a
break-in and theft at George Pol-
lard's chain saw store, Brussels.
Thieves entered the establish-
ment Sunday night, ransacked the
office and made off with a $400
cash register containing about $8
in silver.

shower Thursday evening at the
home of Mrs. George Wheatley,
prior to her marriage on Saturday,
Sept. 7, to Mr. James Marrinan,

During the evening contests were
enjoyed by about 35 who attended.
Mrs. Robert Allan, Brucefieldi, read
the address, and Mrs. Elsie Keyes
brought in a basketful of lovely
gifts. Among the gifts she receiv-
ed was an ironing board, lamp,
cake plates, and many other use-
ful gifts.
Miss Connolly thanked her many
friends for the beautiful gifts, and
a delicious lunch was served.

The stewards of the church board
met Monday evening in the base-
ment of the church for thepur-
pose of deciding the upkeep of
Constance cemetery. A committee
of three, Messrs. William Dale,
Earl Lawson and Alvin Dodds,
were named as representatives of
the Stewards and two appointed to
meet Hullett Council to see about
a grant. Mr. William Dale, secre-
tary -treasurer of the cemetery
board. will gratefully receive any
donations from anyone interested,
with hopes to lead to perpetual
care of the cemetery.

which each' member answered by
telling how she spent her vaca-
tion.
Mrs. Cochrane, president, pre-
sided over the business period.
Several items were discussed, and
it was decided to make a quilt in
the near. future.
Miss Abbie Seip presided over
the devotional period. Hymn 390
was sung, followed by a prayer by
Mrs. N. Schneider. -
Two lovely duets were sung by
Sharon McNichol and Barbara Tal-
bot. Accompanist was Mrs. B. F.
Christie, Mrs. W. Bradshaw chose
as the scripture selection, Psalm
116.
Mrs. Helmar Snell was the
speaker, giving, an interesting talk
entitled, "Are You ,Afraid Of
Leisure?" She reminded her,audi-
ence of the Mission of Evangelism
to be held at Northside beginning
September 29. After the singing
of Hymn 263, the meeting closed
with the Mizpah benediction, Later,.

hdur and lunch was served.
The McKillop Affiliated Group of
First Presbyterian Church held
their August meeting in the Sun-
day schoolroom of the church with
guests invited from Goderich, Clin\
ton, Hensall Presbyterian Church,
and Northside and Duff's United
Churches, and all the ladies of the
local congregation.
Mrs. Helen McMillan opened the
meeting with a welcome to all visi-
tors and read a poem, "Help Me
To Smile." 'Hymn 571 was sung
.and prayer given by Mrs. Helen
McMillan. Mrs. J. W. Thompson
gave the scripture lesson, Psalm
103, verses 1-8,' followed y medi-
tation on the Bible reading. Prayer
by Jennie Hogg followed. Mrs.
W. A. Wright sang a solo, "Just
For Today," accompanied, lay Mrs.
John Cardno.
Mrs. McMillan then called on
Mrs. Hugh Jack for the address.
Mrs. Jack spoke of all the things
we have to be thankful for, and to
try and do as much for someone
else, and to cast aside tempta-
tions that might arise when we
could do good for a friend..:_ Mrs.
J. F. Scott expressed thanks to
Mrs. Jack, and Mrs. Francis Cole•
man presented her with a gift.
A skit, written by Mrs. Childs,
was presented by Mrs. McMillan,
Mrs. J. T. Scott, Mrs. W. Drover,
Miss Jessie Fraser and Miss Jean
Scott, entitled, "Good Neighbors."
Mrs. Appleby and' Mrs. N. R.
Dorrance received the offering. The
September meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Helen McMil-
lan.
Hymn 701 was sung. and the'
meeting closed by all repeating
the Mizpah benediction. The so-
cial group served a delicious lunch.
