-Mrs. Erlin Whitmore introduced
the guest speakers, Fire Chief Jack
Scott, and D'Orlean Sills, a mem-
ber of the fire brigade.
Speaking on fire prevention, Mr.
Scott stressed that 75 per cent of
the fires were caused by smoking,
:careless discarding of matche _
faulty wiring and wrong fuses. Wir-
ing should be checked quite fre-
quently, he said. They demonstrat-
ed how bare wires would start
fires, and also too heavy fuses.
He stressed that if anyone seesa
fire they 'should call 100 immedi-
tately. Time is important.
They also pointed out that
schools and public buildings should
have better fire escapes and more
fire extinguishers placed in them.
