WINTHROP
Bible Vacation School opens in
Cavan Church, Winthrop, Monday
morning, July 29, with registration
at 8:30.
A very interesting evening was
spent in Winthrop Church last
Thursday, when Rev. and Mrs.
Nunez, missionaries of Arizona,
showed pictures and spoke on their
work and the great need among
the Mexicans and Indians. Their
children sang a few songs, first in
Spanish, - and then in English. A
!violin solo by Ronnie Little and a
solo by Frances Blanchard were
also enjoyed. Mrs. Nunez has been
working on this mission field since
1943. She is a sister of Mrs. Gor-
don Blanchard.

Robert Taylor and Gordon Hill, of
Varna, were in Winnipeg last week
attending the joint board confer-
ence of the Inter -Provincial Farm-
ers' Union. They were part of a
delegation that represented the
Ontario Farm Union at the confer-
ence.

Grey and Boundary Group
The July meeting of the 17th of
Grey and Boundary Group of the
United Church was held at the
home of Mrs. Herb Williamson with
18 members and two visitors pres-
ent. The president, Mrs. W. Craig,
opened the meeting with the sing-
ing of Hymn 311. "Oh Love That
Will Not Let Me Go." The scrip-
ture taken from Mark 2:13-17, was
read by Mrs. George Williamson.
A story based on the scripture
reading was read by Mrs. M.
Bann, after which prayer was of-
fered by Mrs. A. Clarke.
Mrs, C. Ritchie gave the WA re-
port and Mrs. W. Coutts gave the
WMS report, each being very sat-
isfactory. There was a short dis-
cussion on the ice cream and pie
social to be held early in Septem-
ber. Thank -you notes were read
from Mrs, Frank Burke for shower
gifts, and Mrs. James Williamson
for gifts sent her `while she' was in
the hospital.
The meeting closed by singing
Hymn 584, "Can a Little -Gbild Eike
Me." The Mizpah benediction was
repeated in unison and lunch was
served by the hostess, assisted by
Mrs. E. Uhler, Mrs. J. Williamson,
Mrs. Roy Williamson and Mrs,
Geprge Williamson.

A social evening was spent at
the home 'of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew
Turnbull on Tuesday evening, July
16, when friends and neighbors,
numbering about fifty, gathered to
view the trousseau of Miss Flora

CGIT Camp
The first CGIT Camp to be held
in Huron County is being held at
the Goderich summer school camp
this week. The girls arrived at
the camp site on Sunday afternoon
and will remain until Sunday, July
28. A variety of activities will be
carried on, namely, handicrafts,
folk dancing, music, dramatics,
swimming and a study of CGIT ac-
tivities. Bible study is based on
"The Dishiples of Jesus." A name
for the camp will be "chosen this
week.

Ann Erskine, Goderich; nurse,
Phyllis Boyce, Seaforth; music
supervisor, Margaret Jackson, Au-
burn; swimming instructor, Mrs.
Harper, Goderich; leaders, Helen

Lions Park, Seaforth, Tuesday af-
ternoen when about 70 attended. It
was under the direction of Mrs.
W. L. Whyte, Ross MacGregor and
William Jewitt. Races and prizes,
were the event of the afternoon. A
bountiful supper concluded the pic-
nic.

Iver, of Antigonish, N.S., officiated
Saturday at the marriage of -his
brother, Mr. Louis McIver, son of
Mr. and Mrs. William McIver,
Staffa, and Joan Monica Flanagan,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Flanagan, RM. 1, Dublin. The mar-
riage took place at St. Columban
Roman Catholic Church, St. Colum -
ban, at 10:30. Mrs. Vincent Lane
was Organist, and the soloists were
Mr. James Flanagan and Mr. Vin-
cent Murray, Dublin.
The bride wore a lavish floor -
length goien of band -clipped chan-
tilly lace over satin featuring a
fitted lace bodice with a sabrina
neckline. A lace apron effect en-
hanced the bouffant skirt and tune
tiers provided back interest. A
crown of matching lace and seed
pearls held her fingertip silk illu-
sion veil, and she carried red
roses.

FIRST CHURCH WMS
The July meeting of the WMS of
First Presbyterian Church was
held in the church basement Tues-
day afternoon. The president, Mrs.
D. Glenn Campbell, presided and
opened the meeting with the poem
entitled, "Bridge Builder," follow-
ed by prayer. 'The devotions were
in charge of Mrs. G. Hills and Miss
Gray. One of the hymns was chos-
en by Mrs. T. Oliver. It was de-
cided thatno meeting will be held
in August,
Miss Jessie Fraser, the repres-
entative from Huron Presbyterial
te the Leaders' Training Confer-
ence in „Albert_ College, Belleville,
early in July, gave an informative
report on the discussion given on
the place of women in the church,
the worship and pregram planning.
Mrs. W. Drover gave the topic
from the study book, which dealt
with the Philippines in southeast
Asia. Of the 21 million people who
live on these 7100 islands, 17 mil-
lion are Christians. Five million
are enrolled in the schools. Many
of the people there are clever and
well educated and- have viten to
positions of high standing, Lay
workers in the ehurch are very
capable and are willing to take
over the work when ministers are
not available. They have also be-
come missionary -minded and have
recently sent several missionaries
to other fields, making the mission
in the Philippines' the most suc-
cessful one in the world today.
