School Picnic The section of SS No. 11, Mor- ris, Walton Public School, held a picnic on Thursday afternoon, June 28, in the school owing to the inclement weather. A sing -song was held, directed by the teacher, Mrs. R. Griffiths. A number of games and contests were conduct- ed by Jean Walters. Pauline Tham- er andBob Humphries. The new teacher for the coming year, Mrs. Harvey Robertson, was present to meet the pupils. During the afternoon Bob Hum- phries, on behalf of the pupils, prx- sented Mrs. Griffiths with a TV lamp. Mrs. Griffiths fittingly re- plied and thanked the pupils. A dainty lunch was served. Those in charge were Anne Achil- les, Mary and David Kirkby and Louis McNicol, by the junior and intermediate stu-, dent mimes in honor qf the gradu,- ates and their mothers. `Miss Teresa LubnOw, of London, is _holidaying with her grandmoth- er, Mrs. R. ' Mrs. Martin Baan has returned home after spending a month with relatives in Holland. Mr. and Mrs. Milne Rennie, of Seaforth, called on Miss Mari Mowbray one day last week. Mr. David Kirkby is spending the summer months with Mr. and Mrs. Don McNeil, Londesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Bryans, of Mitchell, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Bryans and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bryans. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Walters (nee Shirley Bennett), of Seaforth, on the death of their daughter, Dianne. A pri- vate funeral WAS held Tuesday from the Box Funeral Home. Mr. and Mrs. John Linton, Wind- sor, and Mrs. Robert Mowbray and her sister and brother from Eng- land, visited with Miss Mary Mowbray. St. Columban and Walton played a rugged game of football in the Walton Park on Friday evening, which resulted in a tie, 0-0. Three of the Walton players, were injur- ed during the game. Don't forget the annual Sunday School picnic of -Duff's United Church, to 'be held in the Lions Park, Seaforth, next Monday eve- ning. July 15, at. 7 p.m., to take the form of a pot -luck supper. Mission Band will be held in Duff's United Church next Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. Bobbie Humphries entertained his boy friends on Thursday after- noon at a birthday party in his honor. Following refreshments, they attended a hal/ game. Miss Margaret Achilles. of Lon- don. spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Achilles. • Miss Barbara Patterson, who who was a recent graduate at Stratford General Hospital, is spending a three weeks' vacation with her mother, Mrs. Fern Pat- terson. Miss Betty Hoegy has returned to her duties at Listowel Hospital af- ter spending a week with her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs, Clifford Hoegy. Mr. Murray Mills, of Bellevue, Ohio; spent the 4th of July holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mills. Murray is assistant .sales manager of the American Division of the Cockshutt Co. He flew to Louisiana on Thursday ev- ening to assist a dealer who had I suffered losses in the recent floods. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lu'bnow and family, of London, visited with the latter's mother, Mrs. R. W. Hoy, on Sunday. Mrs. Lawrence Cummings, of Clinton, and Mrs. Arthur Buck, of Halifax, called on friends in the village on Tuesday afternoon. Duff's United Church was held in the school- room last Thursday afternoon. The meeting was in charge of Mrs. Alvin McDonald, tiresident, with Mrs. David Watson acting as pian- ist. Following the Call to Worship and opening hymn, Psalm 23 was repeated in unison. Mrs. Robert McMichael read 'the minutes of the last meeting and the roll call answered with "another name Jesus is known by". The _following thank -you cards were read from the ladies who re- ceived cake frOm the 70th anni- versary of the WMS: Mrs. Lillian Livingstone, Mrs. P. Gardiner, Mrs. R. Lundy, Mrs. W. Davidson, Mrs. Gilbert Grigg, Mrs. Jean MeNab. A vote of thanks was tendered to Mrs. N. Reid for the making of the anniversary cake and to Mrs Eyre for decorating it. Mrs. R. Achilles gave the fin- ancial statement. A delegate --to Alma College was registered and will attend from August 26 to 30. The August meeting will be held as usual, when the Baby Band and their mothers will be invited, A lunch of cookies and sandwiches will be served. The WMS will give a small donation to the Baby Band to defray expenses at the meeting. The topic on "Senior Citizens" was taken by the 17th of Grey and Boundary Group. Those taking part were Mrs. C. Ritchie, Mrs. William Bennett and Mrs. James Clark. The meeting closed witir the benediction. The WA meeting was conducted by Mrs. Nelson Jleid, second vice- president. Mrs. Ronald Bennett gave the secretary's report and read- the thank -you cards and the financial statement given by Mrs. A. Coutts. It was decided to have a fall get-together .on September t after the coinpletion of redcorai ing the church, to be in the form of a:spie and ice cream social. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon and family motored to Wasaga Beach on Sun- day and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Allen at their cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Millard Crandall, of Jamestown, New York, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Scott and family. Mrs.T. L. Scott is attending a WMS training course 'at Belleville. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Eves and two children, Dennis and Gladys, of. Moose Jaw, Sask., are visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Laing, and also with other rela- tives and friends. Hugh Scott and brother, David, have returned home from camp at Kintail. We are sorry to report George Wallace is under the doctor's care. WMS Meets The WMS meeting was `held -On Thursday at the home of Mrs. Sarah Scott. Mrs. Scott presided and led in the devotions. The roll call was answered with an item from the Record. Offertory prayer was given by Mrs. K. McKellar. The study book on Formosa was under the leadership of Mrs. E. Moore, with Mrs. T. L. Scott, Mrs. F. Allen, 1VIrs-Houghton and Mrs. T. Laing assisting. Mrs. Calder McKaig had a very interesting pa- per on the life of Dr. James Rob- ertson. Mrs. F. Harburn gave cur- rent events. Mrs. Grace Scott closed the meeting with prayer. Plan Klippen WI Historical Meeting The Kippen East Women's Insti- tute meeting oh historical research arid current;events will be held on Tuesday, July 16, at 8:30 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Harry Caldwell. The co -hostess will be Mrs. Wins- ton Workman. The roll call will be answered by demonstrating an old-fashioned article of clothing. A paper will be given on the his- tbry-of S.S. No. 10, Tuckersmith, and a contest will be held. News of the death of Mr. An- drew Reekie, of Brantford, shock- ed this comniunity last Friday. Mr. Reekie, who was married to Mil- dred Britton, daughter of Mr. Win. Britton and the late Mrs. Britton, was well known in the neighbor- hood. Deepest sympathy goes out from this community to Mrs. Reekie and family.
