Dies in Virginia
Mrs. C. L. Jinks received word of
the death .of her brother-in-law,
Court Hawley, of Windsor, Virginia,
who died suddenly in his 66th year,
Mr...Hawley had been attending a
ball game when' he was stricken
with 'a stroke and was rushed to
the hospital, and died four 'hours
later. He was a travelling sales-
man, and retired last fall, -
Surviving are his widow, the for-
mer Lillia Blatchford, daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Blatchford, of Hensall; two sons,
Court Jr., of Anamosa, Iowa;
Richard, of Windsor, Virginia, and
one daughter (Margaret), Mrs.
Parker Wheat, of Manchester, New
Hampshire.
The World Day of Prayer will
be observed in the United Church
Friday afternoon of next week.
Carmel and St. Paul's Anglican
Church will unite with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray McCreery,
Sharon and Donna left on Friday
for London, where they will take
up residence. .
Hear Seaforth Speaker
Mrs. J. B. Russell, of Seaforth,
addressed members of the Wo-
men's Missionary Society of Car-
inel Church at- their meeting on
Thursday, choosing for her theme,
"Stewardship.” The speaker was
much enjoyed by an appreciative
audience. The topic and devotion-
al were taken by Mrs. Malcolm
Dougall.
The group completed a 'quilt to
be included in the bale to be pack-
ed in the near future for missions.
President Mrs. S. Dougall chaired
the meeting.

President Mrs. Campbell Eyre
chaired the meeting and Mrs.
Alex McGregor was co -hostess.
Luncheon was served by Mrs. N.
McLeod, Mrs. W. Bell, Mrs. James
McNaughton, Miss Margaret Mac-
Kay and Mrs. E. Whitehouse.
Tribute was paid to Frances
Willard, who founded the Woman's
Christian Temperance Union, at
the Exeter-Hensall Branch of the
WC.T.U. meeting held at Exeter
Tuesday afternoon. Miss Willard
has been called+ the greatest wo-
man philanthropist of the nine-
teenth century. She worked con-
stantly for social reform and in
the cause of education and of la-
bor.
Mrs. C. W. Down conducted the
worship, assisted by Mrs. F. Gun-
ning, Mrs. W. C. Pearce and Mrs.
H. Powe.
Letters written to the Free Press
were discussed by Mrs. Pearce
and Mrs. Powe. The meeting was
held at the home of Mrs. Frank
Gunning.
Hensall Sale Prices
Prices at Hensall community
sale Thursday were:
Weanling pigs, $1425 to $17.50;
chunks, $19 to $23.50; feeders, $24
to $28; sows, $87 to $115.50; Hol-
stein cows, $155 to $170; Durham
cows, $130 to $160; Holstein calves,
$12.50 to $17; Durham calves, $23
to. $41.50. Fat cows sold up to
$1225 a pound.
Three hundred and ninety pigs
and 80 head of cattle and calves
were sold.

Mr. Mac Chesney has sold his
farm to Mr. John Broadfoot. Mr.
Chesney is having an auction sale
on Wednesday, March 6. Mr. and
Mrs. Chesney and daughter, Bar-
bara, will reside in Windsor.
Mrs. Lorne Wilson spent the
weekend with her brother, Mr. Bert
McKay, London, and Mrs. McKay.
Mrs. McNichols, of London, 'is
visiting -here with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Alexander.
Mrs.- Davie Triebner and Mrs.
Elgin Thomson entertained Group
No. 3 at the homey of Mrs. Thom-
son on Wednesday evening of last
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baird vis-
ited with Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Hor-
ton, of Hensall, on Sunday.
Mr. Lorne Thomson is in Toron-

gery.

Hensall Kinsmen to Mark
Founder's Night
Hensall Kinsmen will observe
Founders' Night in commemora-
tion of the anniversary of Kins-
men at a banquet to be held Thurs-
day evening at the New Commer-
cial Hotel, Hensall, which will be
attended by over 80 Kinsmen. The
guest of honor for the evening will
be the national president, Iry Can-
tor, of Leamington.
In an initiation ceremony, Hen-
sall Kinsmen will initiate three
new members into their club and
several into Clinton Club.
London, Stratford, Exeter, Clin-
ton and Hensall Clubs will be pres-
ent.
Douglas McNeil introduced the
guest speaker, James Jacklin, fed-
eration fieldman. He spoke on the
organization of the federation in
dominion, provincial, county and
township. All these branches, he
said, are ready to act for the
farmer, when the farmer realizes
what he wants and asks for it. He
also points out some of the
achievements of these organiza-
tions in the past.
James Mair thanked the speaker.
