will hold its regular meeting at the

Mr. Wilbur Jewitt last Monday
drove his mother, Mrs. Mary Jew-
itt to Forest, where she will
spend a while with her sisters be-
fore Christmas.
Mr. Wm. Dale attended the ban-
quet of the Western County Guern-
sey Club at Ailsa Craig and was
appointed the director of the club
for Huron County.
Miss Janet McGregor, of Strat-
ford Teachers' College, spent the
weekend with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ross McGregor. Janet spent
the past week teaching at Clifford.
Miss Helen Mcllwain, of Strat-
ford Nursing School, spent the
weekend with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. George Mcllwain.
Miss Mary Whyte, of Stratford
Teachers' College, spent the week-
end with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Whyte, after having
spent the past week teaching at
S.S. No. 4, Tuckersmith.

ldlrs. G. Elliott opened her home
for the December meeting of
Group 1 of, Northside WA. Mrr,,
H. Connell presided, for the busi-
ness. Mrs. E. •-IL Close read the
minutes of the last meeting and
the roll call was answered with
26 present,
The devotional part was opened,
by singing Christmas carols. Mrs.
LOCAL BRIEFS
Mrs. Harry Brown, of Bowman-
ville, ,who has been the guest of
her aunt, Miss Marion Watson„
left for her home on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Horton and
sons, Bobbie and Ronnie, of Inger-
soll, were Sunday visitors with
Miss Janet Cluff and Mr. J. Scott
Cluff.
Mrs. J. M. McMillan has return-
ed after spending several days in
Toronto.
Mrs. M. McKellar, who has been
a patient at Scott Memorial Hos-
pital for some months, was able to
return to her home this week.
Rev. 0, Glenn Campbell, Mr.
Ernest Geddes, representative el-
der, and Mr. McKellar, Presbytery
treasurer, were in Wingham Mon-
day attending a meeting of Huron
Presbytery.
Mrs. S. Phillips, Chatham, is vis-
iting her mother, Mrs. J. M. Gov-
enlock, and sister, Mrs. Mae Dor-
ranee.
Mrs. Frank L. Maloney spent
the weekend recently with Mr. and
Mrs. Campbell Knott in Toronto.
BAYFIELD
Mr. Bob Brandon, who is attend-
ing Teachers' College in London,
is teaching in Zurich this week.
The Ladies' Guild of Trinity An-
glican Church held their golden
jubilee celebration in the parish
hall last Thursday evening. Despite
the bad weather. they had a fair
crowd. Court .whist was played
and prizes went to Mr. F. Telford,
gent's high, and to Mrs. Walter
Johnstone, lady's high. A bounti-
ful lunch concluded the evening.
Mr, Jim Higgins, Toronto, was
home over the weekend.
Mrs, R. J. Watson, Sentalula, was
a guest of Mrs. G. Gairdner. Ed-
ward Watson, who is with the Mu-
tual Life Insurance Co. in Kit-
chener, was also with his mother
over the past weekend.
Mr. Charles Ritz, Minneapolis,
visited his sister-in-law, Mrs. T.
C. Bailey, at the New Ritz Hotel
recently. Mr. Ritz is president of
the International Milling Co., and
bas just returned from a trip to
Russia.'
Miss Marion Makins. Miss Bar-
bara Bassett, Mr. George Sturgeon,
Miss Mildred Fraser, of London,
and Mr. Bill Parker. Windsor, were
home over the weekend.
Mr. Glen Brandon, Mr. M. Tal-
bot and Mr. Jack Fraser, Toronto,
spent the weekend with their fam-
ilies.
Mrs. Ena Utter was talled,to Vic-
toria to attend the funeral of her
mother.
Mr. Eric Earl, London, spent
Monday in the village.
Mr. Harry Darnborough left
Monday for Toronto, where he will
enter the hospital for surgery on

SEAFORTH W.I. WILL MEET
The regular meeting of the Sea -
forth Women's Institute will be
held at the Seaforth Community
Centre on Tuesday evening, Dec.
11, at 8 o'clock. Please note the
change in. time. This is the Christ-
mas meeting and family night, and
it is .hoped to have a large atten-
dance. Roll call is to be answered
by the men. The meeting will be
in charge of Mrs. James Keys and
Mrs. R. M. Scott. Each member is
to bring sandwiches, unless other-
wise contacted.

Mr, and Mrs. John Kuetfer and
Joan, of New Hamburg, accom-
panied by Miss Mary Lou Roe,
spent Sunday afternoon with Mr.
and Mrs. Wesley Roe and family.
Mr. Ronald Knox, of London, is
spending a few days with Mr. and
Mrs. Ward Knox and Shirley.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas 'Lloyd,
Keith and Brenda, of Harriston,
visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
John McEwing and family.
Burns' Sunday School will pre-
sent the seals, diplomas and books
to the children following the church
service Sunday, Dec, 9. All teach-
ers• and pupils are asked to attend.
Miss Lois Roe has returned to
Teachers' College, Stratford, after
a week of practice teaching at
S.S. No. 4, Tuckersmith, under the
regular teacher, Mrs. Ross Alex-
ander.
Mrs. Ernest Knox and Miss Myr-
tle visited on Sunday with Mr. F.
Shobbrook, Londesboro, the for-
mer's father.
Mr. Robert Reid, Barrie, visited
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie
Reid, over the weekend.

FIRST CHURCH LADIES' AID
The December meeting of the
Ladies' Aid of First Presbyterian
Church was held in the school-
room with Mrs. H. Whyte, the
president, in the chair. Miss Mar-
ion Grey opened the meeting with
a Scripture reading. Arrangements
were made to send Christmas bpx-
es to all the shut-ins. The money
on hand was distributed to the
best advantage. It had been a
very successful year.
The nominating committee then
brought in their report as follows:
president, Miss Jean Scott; first
vice-president, Mrs. W. A. Wright;
second vice-president, Mrs. E. Ged-
des; secretary, Mrs. F. Wigg;
treasurer, Mrs. W. E. Butt; pian-
ist, Mrs. McGregor; hospital re-
presentative, Mrs. H. E. Smith;
flower convener, Mrs. S. Pullman;
press secretary, Mrs. J. A. Munn;
group leaders: (1) Mrs. R. Kers-
lake. Mrs. H. Leslie; (2) Mrs.
Coleman, Miss Marion Grey, Mrs.
T. McMillan; (3) Mrs. W. Ross,
Mrs. Smale, Mrs. Andrews; (4)
Mrs. S. Habkirk. Mrs. Ray Holmes.
Mrs. D. Ritchie installed the of-
ficers. Mrs. Coleman gave a
humorous reading, "The White
Sock Ball Game." Tea was serv-
ed by the executive.
FIRESIDE FELLOWSHIP GROUP
The Christmas party of the Fire-
side Fellowship Group of First
Presbyterian Church was held on
Tuesday evening at the manse of
First Church with an attendance
of thirty. At this meeting a gift
is brought for the Toronto Mission
and there was a goodly number
of parcels collected.
Mrs. R. E. McMillan, the presi-
dent, gave the Christmas Medita-
tion and presided over the busi-
ness. when it was decided to don-
ate $25 to the budget, $5 to the
John Milton Society and $5 to the
flower fund. Miss Alice Reid re-
ported $35 taken in for Christmas
cards.
Mrs. E. A. McMaster read the
Christma's story from St. Matthew,
chapter 2, and led in prayer, Miss
Alice Reid, in a few gracious
words, thanked Rev. and Mrs. D.
Glenn Campbell for their guidance
and help during the year and pre-
sented them with -a gift.
Mr. John Thompson showed
slides taken on a trip to Mexico,
California, Arizon and Colorado,
which depicted many of the old
buildings in these countries, and
also the Grand Canyon and Hoover
Dam,
Mrs. Frank Kling sang "Gentle
Carpenter" and "Bless This
House. Gifts were exchanged. af-
ter which Rev. and Mrs. Campbell
expressed their thanks to the group
for their thoughtfulness. Rev.
Campbell closed the meeting with
prayer, and a Christmas lunch
was served,

MRS, JOHN ANDERSON

Smith, widow of the late 'John An-
derson, of Russell, Manitoba, in her
74th year. Mrs• Anderson was the
youngest daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Smith, Hullett,
and went to the Canadian West in
1909, where she has since resided.
Mr. Anderson passed away some
years ago, but she is survived by
a family of three sons and two
daughters. She is also survived by
one brother, "Robert Smith, Sea -
forth. Interment was made in
Russell, Man.
ALLAN STONE
A former resident in the person
of Allan Stone, Norwich, passed
away in Woodstock General Hos-
pital on Wednesday, Nov, 28, fol-
lowing a heart attack. Mr. Stone
was associated here with the late
W, R. Plant at the C.N.R. station
for many years, and went to. Nor-
wich in 1919, where he had since
been station agent.
Well known here, he was mar-
ried to Susan Hudson, Egmond-
ville. who, together with two sons,
Donald and James, of Brampton,
survive. He is also survived by
one brother and three sisters. An
elder of Norwich United Church,
he was also a member of Britan-
nia Lodge, Seaforth.
A Masonic service was held Fri-
day evening and largely attended
services were held on Saturday,
Dec. 1, at 2 p.m., showing the high
esteem in which he: was held.
Among those who attended the
services were Mr. and Mrs. Scott
Habkirk. Miss Vera Hudson, Mr,
and Mrs. Albert Hudson. Seaforth;
Mr. and Mrs. Don Holyroyd, Pres-
ton, and Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth
Beattie, McKillop.
MRS. GEORGE DALRYMPLE
Mrs. George Dalrymple passed
away in Scott Memorial Hospital,
Seaforth, on Saturday, December
1. having/ been a patient in the
hospital for the past six weeks. A
resident of Hensall for the past 11
years, she was the former Mary
Ann Venner, and was born in
Cromarty. She was a member of
Hensall United Church and of the
Women's Missionary Society.
Surviving are two sons. Wilmer,
Chiselhurst; Garnet, Seaforth; (.our
daughters. (Susan) Mrs: Len Pur-
dy, Hensall; (Lily) Mrs. Ward For-
rest, Zurich; (Ruby) Mrs. Dave
Triebner, Kippen; (Peggy) ,Mrs.
Charles Dunlop, Blenheim; 22
grandchildren and eight great-
grandchildren. She is also surviv-
ed by two brother, Wesley; Hen -
sail, and William, Chiselhurst, and
one sister, Mrs. Archie Ryckman,
of Exeter. Mr. Dalrymple passed
away in 1946.
Public funeral services were
held from the Bonthron Funeral
Home, Hensall, on Monday, Dec.
3, conducted by Rev. C. D. Daniel,
with interment in McTaggart's
cemetery.
