HURON CREAM PRQDUCERS ELECT;
URGE HIGHER -RETURNS
The Huron County Cream Pro-
ducers at their annual meeting in
the agricultural board rooms,
Clinton, passed a resolution re-
questing the Ontario Cream Pro-
ducers to improve the selling price
of cream.
The move followed an address to
the group by Dr. Harvey Caldwell,
of the Farm Economics Branch,
0.A.C.. Guelph. who stated that the
cream producer works for 13 cents
per hour. The meeting felt that as
the cost of production has in-
creased .and the floor price has
remained at 58 cents a pound. the
producer is receiving little or noth-
ing for his labor in producing but-
ter fat.
The meeting went on 'record as
not supporting the Stabilization I.
Fund at the present time.
Ken Parkinson. Wingham, field -
man with the Ontario Milk Pro-
ducts Board, pointed out that over
96 per cent of the butter produced
in Ontario is first grade. "During
September. it reached 97.16 per
cent." he reported.
It was suggested by President
Hume Clutton, R.R. 5. Goderich.
and proved by Dr. Caldwell, that
butter may become a luxury pro-
duct within the next ten years be-
cause of the unsatisfactory price
of producing butter as compared
to producing fluid milk. •
Elected as president of the group
was Simon Hallahan, R.A. 1, Bel -
grave, succeeding Mr. Clutton. Rus-
sell Bolton, R.R. 1, Dublin, is vice-
president, and Gordon Greig, Blue -
vale, secretary -treasurer. Direc-
tors will include Mr. Clutton, Hor-
ace Delbridge, R.R. 1, Woodham,
J. J. Elliott, Bluevale, James Simp-
son. Kirkton, and Gordon Richard-
son, Brucefield.
