turned from Welland, where he at-
tended the annual convention of
the Ontario County Homes' Asso-
ciation.
LADIES' GUILD MEETS
The Ladies' Guild of St. Thomas'
Church met Tuesday evening in.
the parish hall. The meeting op-
ened by Miss C. Holmes reading
the 92nd Psalm, followed by the
Lord's Prayer. The president, Mrs.
J. R. Spittal welcomed two new
members, Mrs. Clarke and Mrs.
Morash to the Guild. After the
roll call, business was discussed
and the date for the bazaar has
been set' for Wednesday, Nov. 21.
After the collection was received
and dedicated, the meeting ad-
journed with the benediction.

Fireside Group
First meeting of the Fireside
Fellowship group of First Pres-
byterian .Church took place at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kling
on Wednesday evening at 6:30,
when a pot -luck supper was served.
Sixteen persons were present and
spent an interesting evenbag.
• The new president, Mrs. R. E.
McMillan, was in the chair and in
her opening remarks welcomed the
members back to the group for
another -season.
During the business period it was
decided to hold the smorgasbord
dinner on October 17. The next
meeting will be held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Cosford, with
Mrs. Hoelscher in charge of the
program.
Miss Mary Geddes read the
scripture lesson and led in prayer.
Frank Kling introduced the guest
speaker, A. W. Sillery,who spoke
on wills and how they should be
made. The address was interest-
ing and informative and many
helpful questions Were asked of,
the speaker and answered very
wisely.
Mrs. R. K. MacFarlane sang a
solo, accompanied by Mrs. E. A.
McMaster. Mrs, K. I. McLean•
thanked the speaker and 'soloist
for their contribution to the pro -
'gram, and to Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Kling for their hospitality,

Prayer in unison.

OBITUARIES
MRS. JOHN BAKER
Mrs. John Daker, 65, who died
suddenly at her home in Stanley
Township, Tuesday night, wes the
former Anne M. Fuss, o Hay
Township, and had lived in that
district all her life.
In 1908 she was married to Man-
uel Reichert, who predeceased her.
In 1932 she ,was ,married to John
Baker, who survives, together,. with
four sons, Lawrence, • Seaforth;
Clarence, Seaforth; Alvin, Hamil-
ton; Karl, at home; two daughters,
Mrs. William McLaughlin, Stanley;
Mrs. Eric Switzer, Clinton; one
brother, Henry Fuss, Hay, and four
sisters, Mrs. Alfred Reichert and
Mrs. Henry Adkins, Hay; Mrs.
William Reichert and Mrs. Albert
Hess, Zurich.
After resting at the Westlake
Funeral Horne, Zurich, a service
was conducted Friday afternoon,
followed by service in St. Peter's
Lutheran Church, the Rev. Becker,
of London, officiating. Interment
was in the church cemetery, Gosh-
en Line. Pallbearers were Charles
Robinson, John Soldan, Gordon
Love, Robin McAllister, Ward For-
rest and Robert Madge.
W. G. PICKETT,
Funeral services for Wilfred
George Pickett, 71, Clinton, who
died oil Saturday at Clinton Public
Hospital, were -held at the Beattie
Funeral Home Monday at 2:30
p.m. Rev. H. C. Wilson, of Wes-
ley -Willis United Church, Clinton,
officiated, and burial was in Clin-
ton cemetery. Pallbearers were
Harold Fremlin, Alex Cuddrore,
Cree Cook, John Neilans, Frank
Dixon and William Pinning.
Mr, Pickett was born in Clinton
a son of the late Mr, and Mrs.
George Pickett. A wood finisher,
he was employed at the Sherlock -
Manning Piano Factory, Clinton,
for over 50 years, before retiring.
He was a member of the Ontario
St. United Church, Clinton.
Surviving besides his widow, the
former Pearl Dunford, are one
son, Kenneth Pickett, Clinton; •four
daughters, Miss Isabel and Miss
Marion -Pickett, both at home; Mre.
Lawrence (Ruth) Plumsteel, Seai-
ferth, and Mrs. Allan (Helen)
Hughes, Stratford; one brother,
Harold Pickett, Clinton; four sis-
ters, Miss Rena Pickett, Mrs. Hat-
tie Blanchard, Mrs : Effie Cornish
and Mrs. Frank Tyndall, all of
Clinton.
ST. COLUMBAN
The monthly meeting of St. Col-
umban C.W.L. was held in the
parish hall with the president, Mrs.
Joseph Kale in the 'chair. The see,
retary's r,eport was given by Mrs.
Albert Cronin and the treasurers
report by Mrs. Angus Kennedy.
First vice-president reported 98
members; second vice-president
reported pins had been ordered for
entrance pupils, and literature and
clothing sent to Fort William. The
magazine convener reported 10
subscriptions. Books are to be
purchased for -the schoOls of the
parish. Mrs. Michael Murray gave
an interesting' reading on "The
Canadian League Magazine." Plans
were made for the annual bazaar,
which is to be held the end of
October. A euchre will be held"
the first week of October. Tickets
were sold on an article donated by
Mrs. Joseph Kale and was won by
Mrs. Kale. The meeting adjourned
and closed with prayer.

• Miss Helen Malwain, nurse -in -
training, Stratford, spent the week
end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George McIlwain.

Carnochan on Saturday, when
household furniture and antiques
were disposed of.
Miss Joyce Jewitt, who is teach-
ing school at St. Ives, Thorndale,
spent the weekend with her par-
eents, Mi. and Mrs. Wm. Jewitt,
Miss Janet McGregor, Whb is at-
tending Stratford Teachers' Col-
lege, spent the weekend ,with her

The bride, given in ,ritarriage by
her father, wore a floor -length
gown of nylon sheer over nylon
' tulle with bouffant skirt' falling to
a slight train. The bodice of sheer
featured an empire waistband of
chantilly lace over taffeta with
portrait neckline trimmed with an
insert of chantilly lace. She wore
a crownless pill -box of net trim-
med with pearls and sequins from
which fell a double tie e of three-
quaeter length imported illusion
veil. She carried a cascade bou-
quet of red roses.
The bridal attendants, Miss Mar-
ion l3ogie, London, as maid of hon-
or, and Miss Cora Bogie, Goderich,
and Miss Jeannette McDermid,
Belleville, as bridesmaids, were
identically gowned in apple green,
waltz -length, brocaded taffeta, and
carried bouquets, and wore head-
bands of yellow chrysanthemums.
Gordon Mcleindsey, of Fort
Churchill, Man., was groomsman
for his brother. Donald McKind-
sey, Seaforth, Another brother of
the bridegroom, and Bruce Smith,
Hamilton, were ushers.
Mrs. J. Snider supplied wedding
music and accompanied 'the solo-
ist, Mrs. J. R. Gowrnarr, who sang
Prayer"
Lord's rayer."
A reception followed at the Bed-
ford Hotel, at which the bride's
mother received in a teal blue
dress of crystalette with mink
brown accessories. The bride-
groom's mother assisted' in a dress
of rosewood lace with beige acces-
sories.
For a wedding trip to the south,
the bride wore a sheath dress of
Swiss embroidered silk with match-
ing duster, and avocade green ac-
cessories, and a corsage of yellove
chrysanthemums. Upon their re-
turn they will reside at McDon-
ald, Man.
The bride, who is a graduate of
St. Joeeph's Hospital, School of
Nursing, University,of Western On-
tario, was entertained at the home
of Dr. J. Rota, Belleville, at a
cocktail party; a dinner at the
home of Miss Monica Waters, of
Belleville; showers by Misses Patti
Schmehl and Ann Judd, London,
and by Mrs. F. Price and Mrs. E.
Alllson,Goderich, also by Misses
Marion and Cora 'Bogie, Goderich.
