Car Hits Culvert
An accident in Usborne Town-
ship, five miles southeast of Exe-
ter„Tuesday morning, caused dam-
ages estimated at $700, when , a
car driven by Cpl. Tom Bull, 30, of
R.C.A.F. Station, , Centralia, went
out of control on loose gravel and
hit a cement culvert. Cpl. Bull

W.M.S. Meets
The regular meeting of the Wo-
man's Missionary Society was
held on Tuesday, August 14. Mrs:
H. Dalrymple had charge of the
worship service on the theme,
"Prayer, the Leaven of Family
Life.” The opening hymn was 488
and the leader used a story, "The
Talking Picture." This was fol=
lowed by several silent prayers.
The president, Mrs. S. Davison,
took the chair for thebus insss part
of the meeting. The minutes of
the July meeting were approved as
„read and the roll call was answer-
ed by the name of a former presi-
dent of the auxiliary. It was de-
cided that we would not hold a
bake sale as previously announc-
ed. Reports were given by 'the
treasurer and literature secretary,
and a thank -you card was read
from Mrs. Fred Burdge. Mrs. T.
B. Baird,, Christian Stewardship
secretary, read, "He who brings
happiness into the lives, of others,
cannot keep it from hiself." For
the program, the fourth chapter of
the book, "The Holy Habits of the
Spiritual Life," was given by Mrs.
B. Keys and Miss E. Bowey.
The meeting closed by singing,
"Say a ' Prayer in the Morning,"
and repeating the Mizpah benedic-
tion.
BAYFIELD NEWS OF THE WEEK
The Rev. and Mrs. F. H. Paull,
who were at their home here, left
to spend a few days in Brantford
with Mrs. Paull's father and sis-
ter, Mr. J. Dixon and Miss Carrie
Dixon.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weston,
Suzanne and Roy, of Ferndale,
Mich., left on. Sunday for their
home after spending their vaca-
tion at "The Batch."
Little Miss Martha Corrie is
spending a week with her aunt and
uncle, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Gray,
London.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Fearnley, De-
troit, were the guests of Mrs. E.
Suppnick, "Holley Lodge," from
Thursday to Sunday.
The Rev. and Mrs. W. Outer -
bridge and Peter returned to the
rectory last Saturday, after hav-
ing visited relatives in Lockport,
N.Y., for a few days.
Misses Mary Lou Burt, London,
and Bessie Coppe, Rodney, recent
graduates of St. Joseph's Hospital
School of Nursing, London, are on
holidays with Mary Lou's mother,
Mrs. L. Burt, at her cottage.
Anne and Christine Everett, of
Guelph, accompanied Margaret
Smith on her return and are vis-
iting at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Smith.
Mr. Richard Peck, who- is in St.
Michael's Hospital, Toronto, is
making very good progress to-
wards recovery, after having had
his left leg amputated above the
knee.
Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Nicholls re-
turned to London after visiting
with her mother, Mrs. Fred Mc-
Ewen, for a few days. Mr. W. J.
Nicholls, Hove, England, who ar-
rived in Canada last week aboard.

some time with his son, accom-
panied them to the village. He is
a guest of Mrs. McEwen for two
weeks. A colleague. of Dr. Nich-
olls, Mr. P. Johnston, U.W.D., is
also holidaying at the McEwan
residence.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anderson,
Mitchell, spent Sunday with her
parents. Little Francis stayed for
a visit with Grandpa and Grand-
ma Sturgeon.

very nicely at Kelly's rest home,
where she is recuperating.

the lady's parents.
Mr. Glen Sturgeon, of Guelph,
spent the weekend with his .par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Byrd Sturgeon

Toronto, are spending the rest of
the month with her father, Mr. W.
W. Higgins.
Master Binnie Sturgeon spent
Tuesdasr in London, the guest of
Master Rickie Nutkins.
The sympathy of the community
goes out to Mr. and Mrs.' Reg
Francis in the loss of his mother,
Mrs, Marion Francis.
Mrs. Melvina Irwin, Sandy and
Robbie visited her sister, Mrs. Gor-
don Stewart, in Kincardine on
Thursday. The children stayed for
a week's visit with their aunt.
In Hospital After Accident
Six persons are in hospitals as
the result of a two -vehicle colli-'
sion last Sunday on Highway 21,
near "The Old Forge."' Police
said a car driven by James Mc-
Allister, of Detroit, collided with a

A reception for Mr. and Mrs.
Ronald McGregor was held at Bay-
field Pavilion on Wednesday eve-
ning with a large crowd in attend-
ance. A purse of money was pre-
sented to the young couple. The
