morning, when the largest congre-
gation recorded for many years

Mrs. Grant Smith; Robert John,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Row-
cliffe; Deborah Christine, daugh-

and Mrs. Douglas Cook; Lesie
Harold, ,son of Mr. and Mrs. Har-

The service was led by the min-
ister, Rev. C. D. Daniel, assisted
by the young people. Scripture
passages were read by Steve
Kyle; Bob Mickle gave the story,
"God's Room." Norma Passmore
presented the story, "God in the
Home." Pat Rowe read- the sec-
ond Scripture passage, and Mary
Ann and Dianne Rannie rendered
a duet. The choir also gave a
number.
Rites of Baptism were admin-
istered to the infant daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Knight and
Mr. and Mrs. Roland Vanstone, at
special Mother's' ,Day services held
in Carmel Church, Hensall, Sunday
morning. Rev. Donald MacDonald
spoke briefly. on the subject, "God
in Moses' Home."
The young people of the church
assisted with the service, and Miss
Jean Henderson sang a solo. Dur-
ing the service. diplomas and seals
were presented to the Sunday
School scholars by the minister.
assisted by Mr. Clarence Volland,
Sunday School superintendent. Mr.
Howard Kerr. of Exeter, a student
minister, will occupy the pulpit
next Sunday merning at Carmel
Church, and at Hayfield in the af-
ternoon. Rev. MacDonald will be
in charge of services at Tara and
Allanford. on Sunday. May 20, with
special baptismal services being
held at both churches.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Campbell and
family. of Parkhill, have moved
into the Joynt apartments.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Oesch and fam-
ily. of Paris, attended the Elliott-
Mousseau wedding in Hensall
Mrs. Archie McGregor has ac-
cepted a position at theI.G.A. store
here.
The Women's Missionary Soci-
ty of Hensall United Church pack-
ed a bale in the church school-
room on Wednesday of this week
for European Relief.
Miss Betty Mickle. B.Sc.N., of
Toronto. spent the weekend with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laird
Mickle and family.
Sharon Lavery. little daughter of
Mr. 'and Mrs. Milton Lavery, and
Joyce Flynn, daughter of Mr: and
Mrs. J. Flynn. had their tonsils
removed at Clinton Hospital 011
Monday of this week.
Mr. Edgar Broderick who has
been seriously ill in St. Joseph's
Hospital. London. was reported as
being a little better on Monday.

On Monday afternoon, ain:Mt 3:30
p.m., on NO. 4 Highway at Kippei,
two cars were involved in an acci-
dent. Mr. Wm. Sheppard, of Hen -
sail, (and Mr. Gordon Bennett, of
St. Catharines. Mr. Sheppard made
a U-turn in front of the Bennett
car and Mr. Bennett, in trying to
avoid hitting the Sheppard ear,
crastted into a hydro pole, causing
$550 damage. Miss Rheta Fiander,
29, of London, was a passenger in
the Bennett car and was sent to
St. Joseph's Hospital in London
with leg injuries. Provincial Po-
lice Officer Cecil Gibbons, of Exe-
eter, stated charges are pending.

Hold Shower For Bride -Elect
A miscellaneous shower for Miss
Grace Forrest, of Hillsgreen, a
bride-to-be, was held Monday eve-
ning in Varna Town Hall. The eve-
ning opened by all singing "0 Can-
ada," followed by a piano instru-
mental by Marjorie Webster; tap
dancing by Nancy Consitt and Mar-
jorie Turner; a reading by Mae
Coleman; songs by Mary Stephen-
son, Bert Coleman and Anne Steph-
enson, "Let the Sun Shine In," and
"The Bible Tells Me So"; a piano
solos, Annie Stephen and Marjorie
Forrest; a fashion show of wed-
ding dresses of yesterday and to-
day. A song followed, "Love and
Marriage."
The bride-to-be was then asked,
to come forward, and took her
place in a prettily decorated chair.
The address was read by Miss
Dorothy Turner, after which Miss
Forrest made a fitting reply. "For
She's a Jolly Good Fellow" was
sung and lunch served later.
Hold Baptismal Service
Special Mother's Day service
was held Sunday at 11 a.m., in St.
Andrew's Church. Rev. N.Mc-
Leod chose as the theme for the
service, "God in the Home—Peace
in the World." The choir rendered
an anthem under the direction of
Miss Jean Ivison. The usherettes
were Margaret Jean Broadfoot
and Joan Young. David Cooper
and Johnnie Consitt gave the scrip-
ture reading. The sermon title
was, "God in the Home of Moses."
The infant children of Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth McKay and Mr. and
Mrs. John Alexander were bap-
tized. Names of the children are:
Darlene Helen McKay and Ross
John Alexander.
On Sunday, May 20. at 11:30 a.m.
and 7:30 p.m.. the Y.P.U. annual
spring anniversary will be observ-
ed in St. Andrew's Church: Spe-
cial music will be rendered by
the choir. The guest speaker at
both services will be Rev. A. Rap-
son, B.A., of Main St. United
Church, Exeter.
