ORVAL WESTON Funeral services for Mrs. Orval Weston were conducted at the Box Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 7, by Rev. D. Glenn Camp- bell, of First Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Maitlandbank cemetery. Mrs. Weston, 66, who died in Scott Memorial Hospital the pre- ceding Thursday, was born here and was the former Gladys Graves. After her marriage in 1913, she went to Detroit, and was there until 1949. Since her return she had conducted Graves' paint and wallpaper shop. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Kenneth G. and John R., Detroit, and one brother; Jas. Graves; Toronto. MISS JANET SCOTT Miss Janet Scott, 87,; .of . East William St., who died Mondry Scott Memorial Hospital, was a daughter of, the Iate Mr. and Mrs. Alex Scott. and had lived here all her life She was oni,.of the old- est members of. irst Presbyter- ian Church, Her sister. Mrs. J. J. Cluff. with whom she had lived, died ene month ago. Surviving are one niece, Janet Cluff, and a nephew, J. Scott Cluff, both of Seaforth. The body rested at the home of J. Scott Cluff, East William St., where private funeral services were • conducted Wednes- day at 2 p.m. by Rev. D. Glenn Campbell. Burial was in Mait- landbank cemetery. Pallbearers were Glenn Smith, W. D. Smith, John Patterson, John F. Scott, Gordon McGonigle and Lloyd Hog- garth: Flowerbearers were Les. Fleming, Wilfred Cameron, A. W. Dunlop. Thomas Beattie, Joseph Aitcheson and James A. Stewart. WILLIAM E. M. DALE W.A. GROUP IV Mrs. Jean Wilbee was hostess to Group 4 of Northside Church W.A. held Tuesday evening. Roll call showed 12 present, Mrs. Alvin Riley, the president, opened the meeting with a New Year's poem. Hymn 425 was said in unison. Mrs. Ken Hulley read the scripture, fol- lowed by a New Year's prayer by Mrs. J. Currie. In the absence of the secretary, Mrs. I. Hudson read the minutes of the previous meet- ing, Which were adopted as read. Hymn 504 was sung. Business followed, and ways and means of raising money by Group 4 for the coming years were dis- cussed. A motion by Mrs. Jean Wilbee, and seconded by Mrs. Hul- ley, it was decided to hold a bake sale in March and September. It was also decided to continue with the travel towel, birthday box and money bags.- The year booklets were made. Tbe meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess and lunch committee. Mrs. Percy Weston turned in ov- er $160 from the sale 'of" aprons, socks, potholders, etc., in her store. .The Guild decided that this was far more profitable than a bazaar. Mrs. W. S. Plans were made for a bowling party and a social evening. Auxiliary Holds Meeting The members of the Marion Rit- chie Attxifary met Tuesday eve- ning in the basement of the church. Mrs. Lorne Elliott presided. Mrs. James Miller read the Scripture, followed with prayer by Mrs. El- liott. Roll call was answered with a verse on. "Guidance". Mrs. Car- ter Kerslake read a chapter from the study book, "We Reach For !Life?' Mrs. T. L. Scott addressed ' the meeting and gave reasons for the allocation being abolished. Mrs. Harold Coleman' had charge of the topic. . There passed • away in Ottawa on December 31, William Ernest Murray Dale, youngest son of W. A. Dale and the late Mrs. Dale (nee Minnie D. Brickenden). Born 41 years ago in Hallett Township, between Clinton and Seaforth .on Highway 8. east of Clinton, he re- ceived his education in Clinton. At the age of 19 years he went to New York to be with his "sister, Miss Ruth E. Dale, where be at- tended college. He then went to Montreal for a couple of years and then joined the staff of the National Research Council in ' Ot- tawa. In October, while on a business trip for the Board, he was taken suddenly ill and had to come back home in Ottawa, where he entered the Civic Hospital for treatment. He had been confined in the hos- pital nearly three months prior to his death, The remains rested in the Hulse and Playfair Funeral Parlors un- til Tuesday, Jan, 3. On Monday evening one hundred members of I.O.O,F. Lodge No. 240 of Cardinal Heights, conducted their. service in the chapel. w. • On Tuesday afternoon a funeral service was conducted it( the Chapel by the Rev. Mr. Giffitli, of Chalmers St. Church, Ottawa, which was attended by a large crowd of sympathizing friends and relatives of the deceased. The floral tributes went to shoihr the high esteem in which was held by the deceased. .The remains were interred in the Beechwood Cemetery i -Ot- tawa. Friends from a distance who attended were: Mrs. Rath E. Matthews and Kathy, Mrs. S. Crawford. R. D. Crawford aid Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Crawford, of°Kirk- land Lake, Ont., and many others. Surviving are his father, W. A. Dale, Clinton; three brothers, J. E. Dale, Clinton; G. A. Dale Lon- don; A. B. Dale, Ottawa,and a sister. Mrs. Ruth E. Matthews, of Daly City, California. e.' The business discussion fol- lowed and some of the year's ac- tivities were planned. Mrs. Roy Scotchmer and Mrs. Peter Rinner were re-elected to be on the visit- ing . committee this year, The meeting concluded with prayer by Mrs. L. Smith. Agricultural Society Elects Officers The annual meeting of Bayfield Agricultural Society was held ..on Monday afternoon. The 1956 slate of officers were chosen and Carl Houston, formerly of Bayfield, but now of Goderich, was re-elected president; secretary is Alma Bas- sett, and treasurer. John Howard. • A business discussion follofved and it was reported the society had a good year. As 1956 is their cen- tennial year, a special committee was chosen to take care of ar- rangements for the celebration. There has been a fall fair • in: Bay- field since 1856. A diploma was presented to Carl Diehl, a past - president of the organization, and an putstanding member for 25 years.
