ed.
onven-ed. in the United Church, Hensall,
the theme of the meeting being,
"Choosing Worthy Goals." Marilyn
Eyre conducted the worship. Maja
Roobol read sacred passages, and
a poem by Miss Marilyn Eyre. A
story, "Religion and Life," was
given by Miss Maja Roobol. Miss
June Ross also gave a story and
offered prayer. Rev. C. D. Daniel
presented a short Bible study.
During the business period con-
veners and members were picked
for the following commissions:

Name Conveners
The Hensall Women's Institute
held their Christmas meeting on
Wednesday evening with a fine and
varied program. Conveners were
Mrs. N. Cook and Mrs. J. God-
dard, while the hostesses were
Mrs. G. Armstrong and Mrs. W.
R. Stephenson. Roll call was an-
swered by a donation to London
War Memorial Children's hospital.
A beautiful medley of carol tunes
as a piano duet, was played by
Mrs. J. Goddard and Mrs. R.
Pryde.
"If Jesus Had Not Come" was
the theme of the message given by
Rev. Donald MacDonald, minister
of Carmel Presbyterian Church.
"If He had not come," said the
speaker, "our outlook would be the
same as those who, as yet, have
not heard the good news."
Carol singing was enjoyed by all,
conducted by Miss Greta Lammie,
accompanied by Mrs. W. Brown.
Mrs. E. Rowe contributed a read-
ing, "The Courtship of Larry
O'Dee." A film entitled, "The
Night Befor`r Christmas," which
presented the T. • Eaton's Santa
Claus parade, was shown with Mr.
Jack Drysdale's kindly help. Re-
freshments, served by the lunch
committee, brought a delightful
evening to a close.
The Chiselhurst Missionary So-
ciety and Women's Association met
in the church schoolroom Tuesday
for their Christmas meeting. Mrs.
P. Harris was in the chair for a
brief meeting of the WA., with 24
members in attendance, who an-
swered the roll call by naming a
favorite Christmas carol. Items of
interest were brought up in the
business session. Mrs. Harris
thanked the members for their co-
operation accorded during her ses-
sion as president for the past two
years.
W.M.S. Installs Officers
Mrs. William Brintnell chaired
the meeting for the W.M.S., which
opened with the theme and prayer
and worship. Mrs. Brintnell, Mrs.
E. Kinsman and Mrs. R. Taylor. Jr.,
read scripture passages, which
were followed with Christmas
hymns. The study on "Home Mis-
sions" was presented by Mrs. C.
Coleman. assisted by Mrs. R.
Boyce. Mrs. E. Chappel and Mrs.
E. Treffrey. Rev. C. D. Daniel in-
stalled the 1956 officers. Mrs. S.
Roobol favored with a vocal sole.
and a ladies' quartette, composed
of Mrs. R. Taylor, Jr., Mrs. E.
Chappel. Mrs. Roobol and Mrs. A.
Ross. sang. Various committees
submitted their yearly reports.
Mrs. Brintnell. president for the
past two years,. expressed thanks
for co-operation of the members.
Lunch was served.
S.S. Has Supper
The Sunday School supper was
held Tuesday evening at 7:30, the
tables being lovely with Christmas
motifs. Rev. C. D. Daniel present-
ed a film, °The Other Wise Man."
Teddy Stoneman., Patricia Harris
and Bobby Munn gave recitations;
Faye and June Ross and Jimmy
Hamilton contributed piano num-
bers, and Dorothy Parker favored
with a solo, accompanied by her
sister, Geraldine. Bobby Munn al-
so sang.
• Rev. Daniel presided for the
election of officers for the Sunday
School as follows: superintendents,
Harold Parker and Mervyn Eyre;
secretary. John Jacobi; treasurer.
Lawrence Eyre; pianists, Faye
Ross and Geraldine Parker. Teach-
ers will be chosen by the superin-
tendents. The children received
treats from Santa Claus. •

The home of Mr. and Mrs Jarvis
Horton, of Hensall, will be the set,
ting on Christmas Day for C t-
mas festivities and an added at-
traction will be the celebration of
the sixty-fourth wedding annivers-
ary of the latter's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. T. Mitchell, of Hensall.
Mr. Mitchell, 89 in.February, and
Mrs. Mitchell, the former Eliza-
beth Rice, 85 in March, were mar-
ried at the home of the bride's

Joint Meeting
Kippen W.M.S. met on Wednes-
day afternoon at the home of Mrs.
Harold Jones, with Mrs. Herbert
Jones as co -hostess. Mrs. Emerson
Kyle presided and opened the
meeting with Hymn No. 47. Mrs.
Archie Parsons was in charge of
the worship.
Mrs. Ross Love reported for the
visiting committee. The visitors
for December are Mrs. Robert Mc-
Gregor and Mrs. J. McLellan. The
supply committee reported having
packed a bale for Korea, also that
a personal gift had been sent to
the prayer partner, Miss Ada San-
dell in Korea. Mrs. Eldon Jarrott
reported for the Sunshine commit-
tee. Mrs. Morley Cooper, treasur-
er, reported theallocation had
been reached. Mrs. Robert McGre-
gor reported for the nominating
committee.
Mrs. N. McLeod favored with a
piano instrumental. The roll call
was answered by a Christmas hint.
The Christmas program was fol-
lowed with scripture readings be-
ing given by Mrs. Alex Hyde, Mrs.
Lloyd Lovell, Mrs. Howard Fink•
beiner, Mrs. Eldon Jarrott, Mrs.
Russell Consitt, Mrs. R. McAllis-
ter, Mrs. Bert Faber, Mrs. John
Sinclair, Mrs. N. McLeod, Mrs. J.
W. McLean and Mrs. S. Pepper.
Mrs. Bruce McGregor favored with
a solo.
The candlelighting service was
held with Mrs. Joe McLellan light-
ing the first candle. in memory of
the departed members; Mrs. R.
M. Peck for the officers for 1956;
Mrs. Emerson Anderson for the
prayer partner, Miss Sandell, in
Korea; Mrs. W. Workman for our
church and the churches through-
out the world. Masters Grant and
Kenneth Jones favored with a duet.
Mrs. Ralph Turner gave the top -
is from the study book. Mrs. Bruce
McGregor led in the singing of
carols. Mrs. Kyle extended thanks
to all taking part in the meeting.
Mrs. E. McBride moved thanks to
the hostess and co -hostess. Mrs.
John Sinclair moved a vote of
thanks to the retiring president
and secretary.
The closing hymn was No. 46.
Mrs. Kyle pronounced the benedic-
tion. A dainty lunch was served
by Circle No, 2.
Usborne Council met as agreed
prior to December 15 final session
to deal with year-end business, on
Monday afternoon, with Reeve
Verne Pincombe presiding, and
Councillors Harold Jeffery, Har-
old Hern, Clayton Smith and Hugh
Love in attendance.
Rebate of grant received from
the Province to the Dykeman drain
under the Provincial Aid to Drain-
age .Act was authorized on motion
of Smith and Jeffery. Appeal from
the Agricultural Societies of Exe-
ter and Kirkton for ::additional
support was further considered.
and on motion of Jeffery and Love
a further grant of $40 was made
to each society.
Certificate of final completion
was received from the Engineer
and all accounts paid in full on
the Moir Drain. The treasurer
was authorized to make application
to the Department of Public Works
for the Provincial Aid to drainage
grant on motion of Love and Hern.
On motion of Jeffery and Smith.
the treasurer was authorized to
close all 'drain accounts for the
year and to charge all drains ow-
ing 'the township interest at the
rate of five per cent, and to pay
all drains to which the township
owes money. interest at the rate
of three per cent.
Appointment of township trustee
to the S.H.D.H.S, Board for a two-
year term was left over until the
final meeting for the year. The
reeve and clerk were authorized
to sign deed for road allowance
sold to Ephriam Hern by the town-
ship in the year 1928, on motion
of Harold Hem .and Jeffery.
Certificate for partial completion
of the work on the Anderson Drain
extension was received from the
engineer in charge of the work
Council agreed to pay the contrac-
tor 60 per cent of his contract
price, as recommended by the en-
gineer.
Council agreed to retain Emer-
son Penhale for snow removal
work as in former years. guaran-
teeing him $95 a month from Dec.
15, 1955, to March 15. 1956. on mo-
tion of Hern and Smith.
The road superintendent's re-
port was considered and passed on
motion of Hern and Love. along
with road accounts, to a total
voucher of $2,899.86.
The tax collector reported re-
ceipt of and transfer to the Gen-
eral Account of the township of
$33,400.00 in 1955 taxes. The treas-
urer reported receipt of $617.95 in
accounts receivable from the road
superintendent and receipts of
$3,661.42 to 'general account. and
with a balance of cash as of No-
vember 30 of $4,979.38.
Current accounts in the amount
of $12,287.76, including the rebate
of provincial grant on the Dyke -
man Drain of $3308.21 and the 1955
S.H.D.H.S. debenture payment to
the Town of Exeter of $8.098...3.
were passed for payment on mo-
tion of Love and Hern.
Council agreed to pay a grant
of $25 for the year 1955 to Kirkton
Public Library.
W. R. Brock was appointed mem-
ber of Land Purchasing Commit-
tee of the Ausable River Conserva-
tion Authority to represent the
township in negotiations with land
owners in connection with the pro-
posed dam ht 'Con. 2-3, on motion
of Smith and Herd.

Their

The avalanche of snow which

they saw on their wedding day.
They recall, while driving with a
horse and buggy to take the train
at Dublin for Toronto to spend
their honeymoon, that the day was
