Winghani District High School for
the eighth Annual 4711 Club
Achievement Night on Friday.
For 418 4-H members in Hurts
County, who completed their pro-
gram this year, this marked the
climax of a busy year's work. Four-
teen Calf Clubs, 6 Swine Clubs, 4
Grain Clubs, 1 Tractor Mainten-
ance Club, 1 Forestry Club, 3 Poul-
try Clubs, and a White Bean Club
were represented on this occasion.
R. Gordon Bennett, former Hur-
on agricultural representative, and
President of the Canadian Coon -
ca on 4-H Clubs and Directors of
the 4-H Agricultural program for
the Ontario Department of Agri-
culture, in his remarks as guest
speaker for the evening, traced
the growth of 4-H Club work on a
provincial scale from the first
clubs organized. He outlined some
of the activities of his council ih
its work in correlating 4-H Clubs
across the Dominion. "During
11955 there were enrolled in the
Province of Ontario, 18,908 4-H
Club members in 1,572 clubs," Mr.
Bennett pointed out. Mr. Bennett
commended the work of the 4-H
Club Leaders' Association.

The evening ended with lunch
and a dance, capably organized
by the North Huron and Howick
Junior Farmers and Junior Insti-
tue members.
Cardiff Citizenship Trophy -
Donated by Elston Cardiff, M.P.
to the 4-H member in Huron Coun-
ty deemed by nomination to be
the outstanding all-around 4-H
member. Not only 4-H work,. but
also home and community activi
ties are to be taken into considera-
tion, including the pledge taken by
each 4-H members: Won by Lar-
ry Wheatley, R.R. 1, Dublin, for
his outstanding 'work and contri-
bution in the year 1955; presented
by Mr. Cardiff.
T. Pryde Trophy -Donated by
T. Pryde, M ;P.P., for South Huron
to the 4-H member in Huron Coun-
ty receiving the highest number
of points on the "Basis of Awards"
for 4-11 Club Work in 1955. The
winner of this trophy this... year
has the highest score of any of the
418 4-H members completing their
project: Won by Murray Gaunt
R.R. 1, Lucknow, a member of the
Lucknow 4-H Beef Calf Club, with
a score of 947 out of the possible
A,000 points; presented by Mr.
Pryde.
Warden's Novice Trophy -Donat-
ed by Earl Campbell, Huron Coun-
ty Warden, 1955, to the novice 4-H
member obtaining the highest
standing on "Basis of Awards" in
Huron County: Won by 12 -year-old
Donald Kirkland, RS. 3, Lucknow,
a member of the Dungannon 4-H
Swine Club, with a score of 926
points out of a possible 1,000; pre-
sented by Mr. Campbell.
Harvey C. Johnston Trophy -
Donated by Harvey C. Johnston,
past warden for Huron County and
4-H Club Leader of the Brussels
4-H Swine Club this year, to the
4-H member under 16 years of
age obtaining .the highest standing
on "Basis of Awards" in Huron
County: Won by Patsy Marshall.
R.R. 1; Kirkton, a member of the
Exeter 4-H Dairy Calf Club, with
a score of 935 points out of a pos-
sible 1.000; presented by Warden
Campbell.
J. A. Anstett Award -Donated by
John A. Anstett, jeweller, Clinton,
a Gruen automatic wrist watch to
the 4-H member obtaining the
highest standing on `Basis of
Wwards" in 4-H Beef Calf Club
work in Huron County: • Won by

County. The chairman for the
evening's program was, William
Tu,rubull, R.R. 2, ,Brussls, presi-
dent of the Huron County 4-H Club
Leaders' Association.
A. H. McTavish, Teeswater,
school board chairman, welcomed
those in attendance on behalf of
the ,board.
GW. ' Montgomery traced the
4-11 Club program from 1951 to
1955. "The number of clubs has
increased from 14 to 30 in the
past four years, with the total en-
rolment increasing from 188 to
531," he said.
`Two thousands six hundred and
forty-nine dollars in prize money
was presented to the members
present. Of the total enrolment,
80 per cent completed their pro-
ject and seven of the 30 clubs had
100 per cent completion.
Arthur S. Bolton was in charge
of the varioous presentations
made of trophies and special
awards, and called the various
clubs to the platform for the prize
giving event. '
He thanked the 4-H members
and parents for their excellent co-
operation during the year, and es-
pecially the 71 4-H club leaders,
