Mr. and Mrs, Eddie Taylor, of
Stratford, visited Sunday with the
latter's mother, Mrs. Dinsdale,
who is ill, Mrs. Taylor remained
to nurse her mother.

The annual fall anniversary of
St. • Andrew's United Church will
be Sunday, October 30, at 11
a.m. and 7:30 pm. The guest
speaker will be Rev. Arthur Wat-
son, B.A., B.D., of Blyth.

and Merle visited Sunday with Mr.
Dickert's mother, who is confined
to Listowel Hospital.
Mail Courier Gives. Long Service
Mr. Norman Long, of Kippen,
has given nearly 20 years' service
from Kippen post office to the
C.N.R. station, which discontinued
the mail service on Saturday,
October 15. He succeeded Mr. Al.
Harvey following his death in
April, 1936, and bas delivered mail
on R.R. No. 2 for the same period
of time. He is to be congratulated
on giving faithful service through
the years, and will continue doing
so on R.R. No. 2.

my, of Detroit, spent the weekend
in Guelph and Hensall.
Mr.Robert Reid, of Kincardine
was a weekerd visitor with Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Reid and fam-
ily.
Mr. Cecil Simpson, of Brucefield,
is spending a few weeks with his
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Airs. Gus Voth, in Detroit.
Miss Agnes Shirray. of Ottawa,
is visiting with her brother, Mr.
David Shirray.
A number of men from Hensall
and Chiselhurst Churches attend-
ed the Laymen's banquet at James
Street United Church, Exeter, on
Wednesday.
Miss Cassie Dougall entertain-
ed 28 ladies to a et.. hre party on
Wednesday of last week. Prize
winners were: Mrs. Earle Sproat,
Mrs. Earl Rowe and Mrs. Annie
Saundercock; lone hands, Mrs. R.
J., Paterson. Luncheon was serv-
ed.
James A. Paterson, clerk -treas-
urer and tax collector of Hensall,
reported on Monday that 90.73 per
cent of the taxes were paid on due
date, that of Saturday, October 15.
The clerk reports this as an out-
standing record for .Hensall.
Church Notes
Rally Day service was observed
Sunday, Oct 16, at 3 p.m. at Chis-
elhurst United Church with a large
congregation in attendance. A
Young People's choir, under direc-
tion of Mr. Ben Stoneman, render-
ed an anthem. Rev. C. D. Daniel
delivered an inspiring message,
and Ed. Norminton. of Hensall, pre-
sented the Rally Day story in a
very capable manner. Miss Faye
Ross favored with a pleasing solo,
accompanied by ber sister, Miss
June Ross at the piano, and a
quartette, composed of the Misses
Faye and June Ross, Major Roo -
bol and Marilyn Eyre, sang very
effectively.

Chiselhurst and Hensall Churches,
met to organize for the fall and
winter meetings, and decided to
hold their meetings the first and
third Sundays of every month, to
alternate between Chiselhurst and
Hensall- At their next meeting,
new officers will be elected.
Rev. Dan Gaynor, of Chatham,
will occupy the pulpit at Hensall
United Church next Sunday morn-
ing, in the absence of Rev. C. D.
Daniel, who will be preaching an-
niversary services at Park Street
United Church, Chatham.

Died in Detroit
Private funeral services were
held from Bonthron Funeral Home
Wednesday for the late Charles
Abbott, of Detroit, who died in
that city Sunday evening. Rev.
N. D. Knox, of Trivitt Memorial
Church, Exeter, and St. Paul's An-
glican Church, Hensall, conducted
the service. Burial was in Hen-
sall Union Cemetery. Mr. Abbott
was the husband of the late Alice
Petty, a native of Hensall
Engage Skating Instructor
The Hensall Figure Skating Club
have secured Mr. Peter Firstbrook,
of London Skating Chub, for in-
structor at Hensall for the coming
season. Classes will be held Sat-
urday afternoons. Information re-
garding taking lessons, etc., will
be sent out to the various schools.
BUFFET BRINGS $260
Fireside Fellowship Group, un-
der the leadership of Mrs. W. J.
Stuart, were host and hostesses to
some 225 persons on Tuesday eve-
ning in the schoolroom of First
Presbyterian Church, at the an-
nual buffet supper. The rooms
were attractively decorated, and
the table arrangements were very
suitable. Miss Alice Reid was in
charge of the menu with the other
members assisting_ The proceeds
were $260.
