Sportshorts
(By HEN LARONE)
For the last two Junior 'B'
hockey seasons, Seaforth fans have
been crying for a new grouping,
new faces, and new competition.
This season they are going to get
it.
Seaforth will be playing a regu-
lar hockey schedule against ten
teams. Actually, the local squad
hasn't moved out of its old group-
ing. The four teams in the south-
western part of the province,
which includes London, Sarnia, St.
Thomas and Seaforth, will play an
interlocking schedule with the sev-
en or eight teams from the eastern
division.
Adam Ast and John Longstaff
told the O.H.A. Junior 'B' conven-
ers at the annual meeting in Kit-
chener last Thursday night that
Seaforth must get into a new
grouping or the town would with -

draw from Junior 'B' competition.
Immediately O.H.A. officials and
team directors from the eastern
division realized that Seaforth was
no longer playing a game of "cat -
and -mouse." A poor grouping with
poor competition left Seaforth far
in the red last year. The Seaforth
representatives definitely told the
directors of the meeting that a
small town of 2,000 people 'could
not suffer two 5seasons of heavy
debt.'
For two seasons this same group
of teams and O.H.A. officials heard
Seaforth representatives asking to
get into 'a new group. When two
new faces representing Seaforth
appeared at the meeting and de-
manded a better system, 'it did
not take long for everyone to re-
alize that a fresh Seaforth hockey
executive was determined to end
the season in the profit margin.
Following a short discussion, it
was decided that Seaforth and the
southwestern grouping would play
two home games with the teams
in their group, and a single game,
with the teams in the eastern divi-
sion_ At play-off time the top four
teams in each group would battle
it out After a process of elimina-
tion the top teams of the two
groups will play in the O.H.A. Jun.'
for 'B' semi-finals.
Seaforth manager, Adam Ast,
says this type of schedule' is two-
way security for Seaforth. Through
the regular hockeyr.schedule, Sea -
forth hockey fans will see at least
ten different teams in action. The
eastern division vlslo is a stiff, competi-
tive grouping. Since Seaforth will
have a younger and less experienc-
ed squad this season, club officials
feel the local boys could go fur-
ther in competition which includes
teams of the old grouping than to
move in as another team in the
eastern division. For this reason
particularly thil proposed ar-
rangement, is considered a most
satisfactory solution.
