MRS. D. SHANAHAN
The death occurred ,in Mitchell
at the Ruston nursing home, on
Tuesday, May 31, of Helen. Louise
Carlin, widow of the late Daniel
Shanahan, following a long ill-
ness. Mrs. Shanahan was in her
83rd year.
For many years a well-known
resident of Seaforth, Mrs. Shana-
han was born on the Huron R d,
west of St. Columban.
She was a member of St. Jam s'
Roman Catholic Church, Seaforth.
Surviving are one brother, Jos-
eph Carlin, Seaforth, and two sis-
ters, Mrs. D. J. O'Connor (Maude),
London, and Mrs. C. D. Reni (Min-
nie), of Long Beach, Calif.
The funeral will be held from the
Burke funeral home on Friday
to St. James' Church, Seaforth,
where requiem high mass will be
sung at 9.30 a.m. Interment will
follow in St. James' Cemetery.
MRS. ROBERT STRONG
The death occurred in Seaforth,
on Wednesday, June 1st. of Emma -
line Hudson, widow of the late
Robert Strong, in her 76th year.
She had been ill about twelve
weeks.
Born in Tuckersmith, she , was
married in 1900 to Mr. Strong, who
predeceased her in 1952. For near-
Iy fifty years, she had resided in
Egmondville. She was a member
of First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived -by one son, John,
of McKillop, and four daughters,
(Pearl), Mrs. Arthur Teamerson,
Rochester, N.Y., (Margaret), Mrs.
M. McLean, Toronto, (Irene), Mrs.
Wayne Bahnsen, Sarnia, and Mrs.
Jeans Bowman, McKillop.
The remains are resting at the G.
A. Whitney Funeral Home, where
services will be conducted Satur-
day at 2 p.m. by Rev. D. Glenn
Campbell. Interment will follow in
Egmondville cemetery.
MRS. J., J. BURNS
The sudden death occurred at
her residence. 773 York St., Lon-
don, on Tuesday of Lucy Staple-
ton wife of John J. Burns in her
60th, year.
She is survived by her husband
and four sons and three daughters:
Joseph R., of Seaforth; Lorne, of
Vancouver, B.C., Patrick, of Ot-
tawa, Gerald J. and John, both of
London, Mrs. Bert Phillips (Rose),
of London, Miss Lucille, of Detroit,
and Miss Estelle, of London. She
is also survived by two sisters and
a brother, Mrs. Michael Nagle
(Mary), of Dublin,
Mrs. Earl
Hubbs (Geraldine), of Galt, and
Joseph Stapleton, Dublin.
The remains rested at the E. C.
Killingsworth funeral home, 389
Burwell St., London, until Wed-
nesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The
late Mrs. Burns will then rest at
the Box funeral home, Seaforth,
until Friday morning. Requiem
High Mass will be sung in St. Pat-
rick's Church, Dublin, at 9.30 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's
Cemetery, Dublin.

past two weeks with their daughter

ford Dungey, where Mr Hogg was
recovering from a serious •illness.

spent Sunday at the home of Mr.

In a letter addrestsed to W. E.
Southgate, secretary of the "01d
Boys' Reunion, Hazel (Richard-
son) Jones, of 406 Victoria., Ave.,
Brandon, Man., says, "There is
neqthing I should have liked better
than to have beef able to attend
'Old Home Week'.,
She goes on
to point out that it is now necessary
for her to take a trip to Ontario
before the Old Boys' commences,
so, for this reason, it will not be
possible for her to be present.
Mrs. William Prendergast, who
is 88 years of age and who says
she is guite deaf, writes from 190
Elmwood Ave., London, to say
that she is looking forward to the
Reunion. Mrs. Prendergast re-
calls the days when she and her
sister, Miss. Kate Killoran, with
whom she lives in London, were
living in Seaforth. Mrs. Prender-
gast is in good health and is able
to get around the city, but she
says in her letter that her sister
is a semi -invalid as w . result of
an injury when she broke her leg
in Seaforth many years ago.
Helen Beattie, writing from 510
Jarvis St., Toronto, said in a letter •
to Miss Reid, that she had delay-
ed answering the invitations 'be-
cause she hoped that it would be
possible to Say that she was coming
back for the reunion. However,
because of ill health, her visit here
at that time is not possible. She
extends best wishes for a wonder-
ful time for everybody.
Thomas S. Melady is looking for-
ward ito a reunion with those with
whom he "attended collegiate. In
a letter to Andrew Y. McLean,
president of, the Reunion Associa-
tion, he says, "I wonder if the
pupils who attended the collegiate
in the days of Rogers and Coiling
will be there. I look for Jack
Hinchley, Bill Strong, Jean Cars-
well, Edith Govenlock, "Click"
Tennis Club Seeks
More Members
Threats of losing the Seaforth
tennis courts has spurred sudden
interest in tennis around the town.
Three meetings of a newly organ-
ized tennis club have brought out
a possible 25 members.
To save the courts from being
ripped up, this total of 25 is not
enough, officials say. In order to
retain the courts, close to $100 must
be raised through' memberships.
In an effort to get more members
the town will be canvassed this
Friday night by members of the
club in an all-out effort to keep
tennis courts in Seaforth.

Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Bennett, for-
mer post master of Walton, arrived
home after spending several weeks
in England and other Euopean
countries. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett
reported having a fine trip.

Scott Memorial Hospital, Seaforth.
The 16th Group of the WA of
Duff's Church sponsored pictures,
taken by Miss Flora Turnbull,
while touring Western Canada and
Bermuda. A large crowd was in
attendance for the Friday night
gathering.

be home much improved in health.

after spending the past four months

that her 'brother, Mr. Roy Mc-
Nain, of Point Clark, is critically
ill .
